Summary of this Book...
Let me start by saying this is my favourite Sherlock Holmes so far. I very much enjoyed the plot. I loved the atmospheric, dark moor and the heavy, grey weather. There was a very gothic, horror-like feeling through the whole of the story. And the mystery of the supernatural hound who kills masters of the Baskerville family is a great story idea. It fits in really well.

The descriptions of the moorland and the climate are wonderful. I was right there, freezing, in the middle of Dartmoor. The hound is described beautifully also. His eyes and mouth glowing with fire really set off the intrigue into what he is. The phosphorous was a nice touch. Although, it made me feel really sorry for the hound. I actually thought he got a raw deal, all in all.

The relationship between Holmes and Watson makes me smile. Watson is really very dim-witted for a doctor. And Holmes is so superior, albeit with good reason. They are a perfect pair, though, and complement each other perfectly.

The place I had difficulty sticking with the book was at the end. After showing the outcome of where the hound is from, and why is eyes and mouth look to be breathing fire, and having Holmes explain the whole plot of who is behind it, and why, I thought that would be the end. However, there is a whole other chapter with Holmes explaining everything to Watson. But there is no new information there; we've literally just seen it happen. It irritated me, and I almost gave up in protest. But I couldn't do that so near the end.

Overall, though, a good, atmospheric read.
This type of Book is good for...
Fans of Sherlock Holmes. Gothic, horror fans. Mystery fans.
I especially liked...
The descriptions of the moorland and the dark, atmospheric weather. The weather was like a whole character, in itself.
I didn't like...
The end. That last chapter really irritated me.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Move on to the next book on my list.
This Book made me feel...
Suspenseful. Irritated. Sorry for the hound.
The author of this Book...
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Need I say more?
I recommend this Book because...
It's a great Sherlock Holmes mystery.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not the most action-packed thriller you could ever read. Plus, the end is really annoying.
