Summary of this Book...
This is the first Inspector Frost book, on which the TV series is based. I was looking forward to reading it, but, unfortunately, I was disappointed. I know we have to take into consideration the time period in which it was written, and also the fact that the police force was a predominantly male environment at the time, but the language used and opinions of the male officers really irritated me. They were so sexist. It was like all the male officers thought about was sex and the size of every woman’s breasts. I found it quite jarring. Also, Frost was not a likeable character. His whole life mission was to annoy Mullet. He didn’t seem to care very much about anyone. The plot itself was interesting. There were two main stories: the disappearance of the schoolgirl Tracey Uphill, who didn’t return from Sunday School, and the skeletal hand that was found buried with a locked strong box handcuffed to his wrist. I like how they both unfold. They are clever, especially the story of the skeletal hand. So, the story was good. It was the characters I didn’t like. Even Clive Barnard, the new DC, was nasty and arrogant. Nope. Didn’t like them. I have already downloaded another Frost book, but I’m not sure I’ll read it now.
