Summary of this Book...
This is a great, short locked-room mystery. It is a prequel to 'A Good Girl's Guide To Murder' (which I've never read). Seven friends gather together to take part in a 1920s dinner party. There is a murder, and all of the friends search for clues and try to figure out who is the killer. Pip, the main character, plays Celia Bourne. Jamie is Inspector Whey. Connor is the butler Humphrey. Cora is the cook Dora. Ant and Zach are brothers Ralph and Robert “Bobby.” Lauren is Ralph’s wife Lizzie. The murder victim is Bobby and Ralph’s father, Reginald Remy. I kept thinking something would happen to one of the friends, in real life. Creepy settings were included which made me think there was a real murderer out there. But nothing happened. I was a bit disappointed by that. There is a real mystery underneath the game. A few year’s ago, a 17 year old girl went missing, her body never found. It is believed her boyfriend, Sal, killed her because he took his own life a day or two later. At the end of this book, Pip is wondering whether he really did it, and she decides to investigate. A good, cozy mystery that I enjoyed, all in all.
This type of Book is good for...
People who enjoy locked-room mysteries. People who wasn't a super-quick read with a bit of a kick.
I especially liked... | ||
The murder game. The dark setting was very atmospheric, and I kept thinking something would happen to one of the friends. Spoiler alert: It doesn't.
I didn't like... | ||
That there was no real murder. Everything that happened was as part of the game.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the book that follows on from this.
This Book made me feel...
Excited. Amused. Suspenseful. A little disappointed.
The author of this Book...
Holly Jackson. From Amazon: Holly Jackson started writing stories from a young age, completing her first (poor) attempt at a novel aged fifteen. She lives in London and aside from reading and writing, she enjoys playing video games and watching true crime documentaries so she can pretend to be a detective. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is her first novel. You can follow Holly on Twitter and Instagram @HoJay92.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a one-sitting, exciting read.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's all 'on the surface'. There is little depth to it.
