Summary of this Book...
Violet Sorrengail has trained for her entire life to be a scribe. The Archives are her home. After her father’s death, however, she is forced to try follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a dragon rider. Now Violet is in danger – from her mother’s enemies, and from the challenges thrown at her each and every day. Because of her small and fragile frame, she is a target for the other candidates who see her as the weakest link. Even the dragons may destroy her if they find her unworthy. And then there is Xaden Riorson… everything about him is a warning. If she is to survive, she has to be cunning. Make allies. Avoid Xaden. What is she to do, though, when she learns the truth?
This type of Book is good for...
Those who love action-packed fantasy novels, romance and dragons.
I especially liked... | ||
There is a lot to like about this book. Violet is an interesting character. She is smart, and brave, and determined. She is kind but, at the same time, she will do what needs to be done. There is a bit of a love triangle, except not really. It becomes clear early on who will win her heart, and why. Both of those male characters are interesting, in their own way. One attempts to protect her by sheltering her as much as possible; the other tries to protect her by preparing her for whatever the world may throw at her. There are some well-developed side characters who both help and hinder Violet in her journey. And the dragons… well, they are great! I love Tairn, Sgaeyl and Andarna! They, too, have their own unique personalities. The setting is excellent, too. You get a sense of depth and history, and there is an undercurrent of political tension that had me intrigued.
I didn't like... | ||
I wouldn’t say that I truly dislike anything. Perhaps a few moments of peace and fun would be nice – this is a high-paced, action-packed novel and there are times when both characters and reader can do with a breather. Also, whilst I mostly enjoyed the spicier moments the way that some of the kissing is described is a bit icky, in my opinion! I wouldn’t want someone to kiss me like that, let’s put it that way.
This Book made me feel...
Highly engaged with the story, and the characters. It's one of those books that you don't want to put down.
I recommend this Book because...
If you want to escape to another world for a while, Fourth Wing's got you covered. At 561 pages you have a fascinating journey ahead of you, and there is never a dull moment. Do get your tissues ready towards the end. You will need them.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you dislike strong language, this probably isn't the book for you. It is definitely featured throughout. Also, there are some scenes of a graphic, adult nature. I know that those are not everyone's cup of tea.
Further Comments... | ||
I look forward to reading the next book in the series - Iron Flame!
