Summary of this Book...
I enjoyed this. It’s probably my favourite Liane Moriarty so far. The story begins on a flight. A flight that has already been delayed, then stuck on the tarmac, so passengers aren’t as happy as they could be. And then, there is Cherry. An elderly lady who a short way into the flight stands, then proceeds to make her way through the aisle pointing at every passenger and predicting their cause and age of death. Most people don’t believe her. Not really. But once you’ve had this kind of prediction, it’s hard to never think about it again. Especially when you are about to become the age of your predicted death. So when the first prediction comes true, and then two more, people are freaking out. I really felt for Paula, the woman whose baby son, Timmy, has been told he will drown when he is seven. And Eve, the bride on her honeymoon who is told she will die from intimate partner violence age 25. This book is told from several points of view: Eve, Paula, Sue, Ethan, Leo, Allegra and, of course, Cherry. To be honest, there was a point where I got a little bored with Cherry’s chapters. She basically told her life story, which was interesting, but I felt it slowed down the momentum of the story. All in all, I enjoyed this. It’s a completely unique plot, and it made me think quite deeply at times.

I especially liked... | ||
Sue and Max. They really tugged at my heartstrings. Max was so scared that he would lose his wife at age 66 (she turns 64 in the book), but he tries so hard to be brave and act like he doesn't believe a word of it.
I didn't like... | ||
Cherry's chapters bored me a little at times. I didn't think we needed all the information the author included. That said, I did really enjoy the parts where Cherry spoke about Ned. I felt sad at that, and I felt sorry that she lost Ned and her two best friends within a couple of days.
