Summary of this Book...
One in a series of books by James Herriot, "All Things Bright and Beautiful" continues the life of a practicing vet in 1930s Yorkshire, England. Our beloved vet is now married (not a spoiler, we learn about her in the previous book) and continues to treat everything from local pets to farm animals. Told with humor and pathos, we ride along (much like his beloved dog, Sam) on the adventures that take the vet far afield, down some quite questionable tracks (they can hardly be called roads) where he will dispense medication, perform hazardous surgeries, and where offered, a cup of tea or meal with the farmer and his family.
This type of Book is good for...
Teens and adults who enjoy a good story. I read these books as a tween. While I didn't remember most of the characters (I did remember Trickie!), I was immediately transported back to the days of his practice. Still heart-warmed throughout by the re-reading, too.
I especially liked... | ||
Modest almost to a fault, I still really like this man. There is a gentleness to him. I also get the sense that he loved his wife so very much and was loved in return. We all can hope for that quiet, steady love. The love that is never extinguished.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Have a drink with him. Some of that farmer's wine, to be specific (read the book for that chapter. It's quite humorous.)
This Book made me feel...
Happy. | ||
I recommend this Book because...
Animals and a fine vet make for interesting adventures.
