I read the first installment of the Murderbot Diaries (All Systems Red) a couple years ago, and honestly I don't know what I didn't immediately pick up the next book. It was really good, and they're short, fun reads about an android who gains sentience and tries to disguise that fact from the humans all around him. I actually didn't even realize that they made an Apple TV+ show based on the books until it was already released. And I really want to watch it, but I promised myself that I would finish this very short series of books before I watch the show, because I want to see how they incorporate the source material. Overall, I enjoyed this installment even more than the first book. The first one was an amazing concept and introduction to the character, but this next book in the series felt like the author was really getting comfortable inhabiting the character and taking more risks. If this one was as big an improvement over the prior entry as it was, I'm really excited to continue on with the series. And then eventually watch the show and see how they adapted it for the small screen. | ||
