Summary of this Book...
Rocky is married to Nick. They have two adult children. All of them converge yearly in a rental on Cape Cod. It's a tradition the family has had since the days that the kids were babies. Along for the journey is their son's girlfriend, who has been around long enough to be almost another family member. While they gather, Rocky spends time reminiscing about life when her kids were so young. She is angsty, menopausal, and ready to fight with her husband about anything. Such as angsty, menopausal women are wont to do (not judging!). Rocky's parents join the group for a couple of days. This is all what's going on on the surface. The rich layers of Rocky's memories adds quite another dimension to this story, leading us along a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
This type of Book is good for...
Angsty, menopausal (haha) women. Or maybe wait until you're less angsty. I don't know. It's nice to be able to relate to a character who is just so real.
I especially liked... | ||
The author invites us to inhabit Rocky's mind along with her. While in places this can be confusing and sometimes jagged, it's also very intimate. I felt like I really knew who she was. Flawed, yes. Loving, also yes.
I didn't like... | ||
Sometimes being in her thoughts is a little too much. The jagged-y parts, probably. Not enough to make me regret reading this book.
The author of this Book...
Has written other books. I will need to check them out.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a simple story, told through the eyes of a complex woman. It's worth a read.
