How fun to have them come so close! Since I moved to FL, I have a lot of wildlife around my house. Sandhill cranes are cool, except during mating season, they're so loud! I also have limpkins, they're loud too! The egrets, herons, and ibis are lovely to watch. Now let's talk alligators!
Laughter is wonderful. That makes the situation lighter; that is considered a first to gaining environmental normalcy if it is heavy. Even if it happened a long, long time ago, over thirty years, bringing a smile – that must be helpful to normalise the situation.
I agree with you that no one can tell you what a friendship truly is. It is unconditional and non-expressible liking. It is very tough to get a true friend. It is a connection between two souls.
I wish I had close friends. It's been very hard for me to connect on a deeper level and when I did... other factors intervened. I'm glad to read that others here have had better experiences.
I agree, I have good friends who are still quite different to me in lots of ways. Sometimes when you have been friends for a long time, it is worth keeping that friendship going even if your lives are now very different.
Prompt:
On this day in 1962 Monster Mash by Bobby Boris Pickett. I've included the song to inspire your monster entry today. Write either a story or a poem about monsters, any kind you want after seeing Pickett's facial expressions you should have lots of inspiration.

My Monsters
Suddenly, when hours creep
I'm too scared and cannot weep
for his face twists in ways unknown
and his voice takes on a husky tone
I look in the mirror to see, no, it isn't him
with smiles cracked, carved with grim
but also me who grins from ear to ear
with lips curled, to hide my fear
Also, is a face with chin pulled tight
the nose a swirl of crooked fright
he puffs his cheeks, eyebrows too thin
some face he has, stretched like sin
My monsters growl, sigh, and snare
I try to look away, in despair
yet, they are not evil, but odd and free
my monsters are a part of me
When I look away, they disappear
but within my shadow, they're so near
like grief, lost hopes, bent and skewed
they keep after me, to me they are glued.
