I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.
I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.
I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.
My family buried secrets. I'll never know the answers to at least two events that apparently traumatized me as a child. I'm still bitter about that. Yes, I know I should let go; but, they colored my life for most of it.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite, too, but I also like and remember Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." That's the one I decided to memorize to recite to the class back in grade school. It still often pops in my mind. I think it's the easy rhythm and rhyme and the great description so well woven in. The only favorite book I remember is from way back also, "The Little Airplane." Maybe these are because I'm still a kid, even though seven decades later.
my phone does it all but I am constantly frustrated with the amount of text messages I received during the election and now with Christmas approaching. I'm spending too much time blocking numbers and reporting them as spam.
Do you practice mindfulness or meditation? How often? On an average day, how often are you intentionally aware of your mental state and emotions?
Prompts for the war chest?
1. How do you think mindfulness will affect the general public, if it is practiced regularly?
I read a comment one time, when I was in some website or another (sorry no reference), that mindfulness will help redeem this country if it is regularly taught and practiced. It definitely is an aide to keeping your mind focused. The trick for me is to remember to use it. I do practice it. I meditate on the words of Christ.
To me, meditation and mindfulness can fulfill two slightly different realities. Meditation about some specific thing is helpful to understand life situations and actual advice.
Mindfulness helps clear the mind of the rolling films of words that strike through the mind at any given moment. Mindfulness can be a few seconds or a lot longer. Mindfulness keeps us mentally focused on the present. A strong focus on minute to minute living can bring solutions to the surface of the mind. It can help the realization, that daily living can be accomplished over and above problems.
Daily I am aware of everything going on around me. And, I have a lot regularly going on . I can and do stop for a few seconds to readjust my actions or thinking especially if I become stressed out about what is going on inside my home.
2. Do you have a social account outside of WDC? It you do, Does your social activity on your other account help fulfill social needs? How well do you get along with the technology involved with social media accounts. What do you think about 5G in comparison with what other WiFi has been around for the last few years?
3. Everyone talks about the weather. Do you like cold or heat? Do you participate in sports related to either one?
