A Journal to impart knowledge and facts |
July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
The United States Electoral College is the institution that elects the President and Vice President of the United States every four years. Citizens of the United States do not directly elect the president or the vice president; From: Wikipedia about the Constitution of the USA.![]() The present struggle about the supreme court nomination is seated in the constitutional language. The words advise and consent are being used to delay the Presidential nomination until a new President is elected. The constitution was written with checks and balances so no particular branch of the USA government has too much power. The struggle starts within when one group believes certain ideas over another group and when those groups both reside within the elected body that is housing the argument. The government was built to go through these types of struggles. 1. The President nominates a candidate 2. The Senate Judiciary Committee holds a series of hearings. (They were televised the last time.) 3. Within the hearings Questions are asked. A. The candidate answers B. Witnesses answer 4. The Senate Judiciary Committee votes to send the nomination to the full US Senate. 5. If the Senate confirms the President formally appoints the candidate to the court. Just put this up because this is the way the 2016 is going and it gives me a basis of thought about news article. Have a great day. It is raining here so I guess I'll read. ![]() apondia#1781748 apondia#1781748 |
Give me three possible prompts you'd like to see in a future 30DBC. You don't even have to explain them if you don't want to. ![]() ![]() ![]() 1. Taking into consideration the type of campaigning for President of the United States this year and recent terrorist threats to the countries of the world do you think the USA is in serious trouble? Can you give voice to your thoughts about what is causing the reactions of the people against the way the USA is being governed? 2. Should President Obama be allowed to usher in the new Justice of the Supreme Court? How do you feel about the Republican effort to stop the process? 3. Some people in Erie, Pennsylvania, USA, have been testing a new cancer treatment that involves the use of radio waves. They are suppose to start human trials in Europe soon. Has the news media been giving adequate coverage to this scientific phenomenon? Do you have an opinion about how this will affect the citizens of the earth if they find a cure for cancer? |
It's Easter Sunday! Share a fun story from your neck of the woods. If you're not celebrating Easter, share an interesting news happening. It's kind of an "open prompt" today. Our Saturday entertainment was a movie starring Robert Redford, "A Walk in the Woods." I recommend this movie for everyone who is suffering from the old age problem of being intelligent and thrown away to make way for youth. A quote from Redford's character, Bill Bryson, was inspiring. "Books are like TV for smart people" ![]() On this Easter I am celebrating with praise music. One of my parrots is singing along to the music. Even though Parrots have uncertain abilities to sing. My birds actually seem to carry tunes loudly. Today they are singing along to "Casting Crowns--Until the Whole World Hears" Parrots have special pelleted foods that is made to help them stay healthy in a pet environment. Unfortunately, they pick and choose which pieces are their favorites. In addition my birds eat pieces of regular food. They like all kinds of nut, fruit, and vegetables. The food they waste is thrown out.. I throw the wasted feed into the back yard where the crows excitedly scarf it up. We have huge long lived crows that tramp all over the back yard looking for parrot food. ![]() One family of crows brings their off spring fresh from the nest on first flight to feed in the feeder. Some day the young crows will out grow the ability to get into the feeder but they get a good start. ![]() The fact that humans and animals can interact is a blessing from the Savior. There is a verse that says God gave the animals of the earth to Jesus, the son. Happy Easter. ![]() |
Saturday, March 26, 2016 Plot a takeover...of a company, a country, your neighbor's lawn, anything. Have some fun with it. NEW TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD BY ![]() Nibble jumped up. There was a furry nose pushing back the twigs at the opening of his nest. “Hey! stay out, I’m warning you I will bite.” He shuffled backward against the wall. A lanky red squirrel was pushing her way into the burrow. “I didn’t think you guys would eat a chippy!” “Hold on now. Hold on. I just need to tell you some news.” “What are you yammering at me for, I don’t pester your kind.” The red squirrel tried to rise up to her full height. But, banged her head on the rock hanging from the ceiling just inside the door. “Ouch! You ought to have etched out a bigger hole.” “what do you know about it you live high up in a tree nest with a bunch of other red flighty bushy tails.” “Now, now, we’re getting off the subject.” “I thought the subject is your not welcome in my den.” “No! The subject is the local bird population and their control of the food market.” “You mean the new feeder the humans put in the yard?” “Yeah the feeder. Some of us, chippys and red squirrels are wondering how to get some of the seed for all of us.” Nibble settled into the moss on the floor trying to cover the small pile of bird seed on the floor. “Yeah so?” “Well we wondered if you have any idea how to get some of the seed for all of us?” Lanky red threw a knowing look at Chippy. “Why would I help you reds get seed?” “No. I mean for chippys and reds we could share.” “The lady red squirrel was suggesting we share food?” “The human put grease and disks on the pole. The grease is really gross it sticks under my toes. Anyway, we are holding a big meeting on the edge of the lawn and going to try to think of a way to raid the feeder. I ran across a limb lickity split and jumped for the roof yesterday. I ended up hanging from the edge and a big Blue Jay knocked me off then sat in a tree and laughed. I’m sick of the birds getting all the seed.” Suddenly she started backing out of the hole she came from. “Thanks for listening hope you make it to the meeting.” Nibbles sighed, it was close to dark, so he decided to stop by the meeting. There was a crowd of chipmunks and red squirrels gathered at the feeder looking up at the unreachable seed. “it can’t be done. It is too far from a tree to jump.” Shouted one red. “Just look at that pole,” complained another squirrel. Nibbles squinted down across the lawn. “I can do it. I need to take stripes with me. Come on stripes follow me.” The two chipmunks ran fast across the lawn to the very bottom edge where the forest met the yard. A buck and a doe were munching thick green grass along the edge of the yard. Nibble ran up to the buck stood on his little hind feet to chatter a greeting. The buck put his head down close and the two chipmunks jumped up into his antlers clinging tight to the bony rack. The deer lifted his head and both deer strolled up the edge of the yard to the bird feeder. Then Mr. Bucky dipped his head toward the feeder and the chipmunks jumped off right inside the feed container. They dived into the seed scattering millet and sunflower out onto the ground, in a rowdy manner. The two deer, all the red squirrels and the gang of chipmunks dived into the seed. By morning when the birds showed up there was not a bit of munchies left. What they did not eat the rodents had stuffed in their cheeks and hid for another day. “What happened to the bucket of seed I put in the feeder yesterday? Listen to the Blue Jays screech they are really angry.” “Just refill it. How much can a couple Blue Jays eat in a day?” ![]() ![]() |
On this day in 1954, RCA manufactured its first color TV set and began mass production. Had this never happened, do you think we would still enjoy what television has to offer us? ![]() Yes. I believe constant technological advance is inevitable. However, the way some things evolve probably has a sociology affect on society. For instance, there is a lot of difference between the programming presented on PBS and the programming on other channels. As for me, I only get PBS, ABC, NBC, and CBS. So, other people who have cable may have better choices but they have to pay high prices for the choices. Those prices are still out of reach of some places in this country. Last nights news had another factory closing in this area and moving its' product line overseas. Interpretation of constant technological advance is something that should be discussed and analyzed. For instance, I lived on a farm in North Dakota in 1962. Their electricity was totally supplied by windmill. There was not any noticeable difference in the technology. They ran televisions, freezers, refrigerators, etc. without any glitches. Except Once every 6 months they were down for maintenance for awhile. Maintenance was accomplished by the farmer who owned the farm. And, not only the house and outbuildings were adequate but the apartment we were renting was also covered technologically. Since 2005 studies have been done in Northern Pa. that makes solar energy feasible year round. Solar panel size and shape have been updated to be usable and inexpensive through out the world. If the world economy collapses people who have been able to change to these technologies will not feel the pinch as much as other people. Unfortunately, there is a public outcry against some of these technologies. The draw backs to wind and solar energy are also being addressed and changed. The normal person under $30,000. has a difficult time even considering newer systems of energy. It means a change to their now economically impoverished lifestyle. In another voice, I have to say, I know a lot of the energy technology produced by this country is being shipped to markets over seas. For one thing, people are afraid to disband companies who now handle all energy. This is a whole other thought process to take control of energy supplies and feels impossible to those who can't even find more than a part time job. etc. Recently I found out online, there is now new technology that eliminates the need to use batteries to store solar power. It is an electronic feed like an electric panel that brings the energy into the house and changes it to a usable product and feeds it to the lines that run inside the house. The factory that makes these systems is sold out for years to come. How will the USA respond to all the challenges that are needed? Philadelphia has or is suppose to have internet to every household as a part of their new systems. Other cities are also jumping on this idea. The internet can bring TV, education, knowledge, social media and just every day everything. Energy is a basis for all changes. The Human body is puny and subject to breakdown. The extra energy keeps us warm, well, safer or you list it! We can live without it but know one wants to. |
"Old habits die hard." Do you believe this statement? ![]() ![]() ![]() Well yes! If you don't practice something new that to replace the old habit, you will revert to the old habit. Just human nature or brain waves. Other things that can cause you to revert is loss of memory, sudden fear, extreme anger, anything that may be sudden so your brain grabs the first habit you call up which may be the old one. Editing is my hangup. Or more to the point passive writing is a hangup. "Reeling in the Readers" gave me some really specific ideas for making changes and I hope I am working on changing my brain so it thinks action and show when I write. So, I continue to read books about how to write as I write new scenes. Also, when I took guitar lessons my teacher told me you should always do something slowly and perfectly right as you practice something new. If you don't make mistakes to begin with you don't have to relearn and the habit will be the first one that presents itself when you need it. It must work because this is the way I learned classical guitar and even though I don't play often whenever I pick up the music the proper habits bring forth the song. Also, I never forget the way to ride even though I don't ride now. If I go to a horse show I have a habit of picking apart riding habits that are improperly executed because I know so many tricks. We watched 4H at the fair this year and I was quite angry that the children apparently do not have good teachers. Many of them did not know how to present themselves or their horses inside the arena. It's dangerous for the horse or rider or both if the control is not present. Children and mounts should be so well taught they can't make the mistake away from home, the one that may harm them. ![]() |
What product, that used to be on the market but is no longer sold, do you think should be brought back? Tell us why. ![]() OK. This one really stymied me cause If a product goes I just move on. Besides, I like a lot of today's products. But, then I started to think about it. Walmart around here was selling a potato breaded fish (pollack) that I really liked, then they stopped selling it. This was just before the financial meltdown. I miss a St. Ives cucumber mask that was really good for my finicky skin. And, in the 80's Blistex had a lipstick I used but something went wrong with the product and they took it off the market. Of course, when I was a child I was allowed to have a nickel a day to buy a candy bar. So I would like to see the nickle candy bar make a return to the market. And, still be edible of course. ![]() I would also like to see a better job market in our area. Property taxes based on personal income. People around me that like to play scrabble. Affordable board games need to return. I better read some other blogs. See what else is out there I lost, but, did not pay any attention, when it was gone? |
