A Journal to impart knowledge and facts |
July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
The Monthly Reading Challenge has been upgraded with style and rules. It really looks great and the new rules will certainly keep readers on their toes. Fran--Master of Plan! has been busy for sure with this plan. ![]() I see Donald Trump's ratings are falling. This has to be the most unusual campaign competition I remember from over the years. ![]() One day while researching something (???) I don't remember what. I stumbled across some amazing information. There are free online courses if you really want to learn something new. MIT has open course ware and presents free classes on Youtube. There is also something called the Open Course ware Consortium. Also, edx = MIT and Harvard joint offer of free classes online. I guess we can be educated if we want to be. Mentioned in one of the WDC newsletters I read is a free (materials included) 8 week course on mindfulness, at www.palousemindfulness.com. It is very well guided. Some of these courses offer completion certificates. This is just a small sample of the free guided learning places that are available if you look. ![]() I wrote 500 words on my story today. Writing is easier than reading I'm making my own story. ![]() |
![]() It's cloudy but cool this morning. Its very quiet outside. No birds singing. Pennsylvania is giving up the license plate sticker on Automobile license plates at the end of 2016. I think many people are now renewing registrations online. Will they ever pass a budget again? I'm still getting things for June caught up but lethargy is setting in. Maybe some days off over the 4th of July weekend will energize me. Today I was researching phone harassment. Can you believe it? There are websites, www.prankdial.com or www.prankowl.com that help people place prank calls from the web. There is also an app for phones that does the same thing. In today's violence climate why would anyone want to use the phone to prank someone. At www. privacy rights.org there is information about this kind of stunt. In the 90's states started to understand the serious nature of stalking and stiffened laws of enforcement involving stalkers. Is it a prank or is it spreading fear, violence and mental stress? This is no joke. ![]() Have a good Day. Keep smiling. ![]() |
I received a notification this week that Mrs. Katz had a birthday. She is affiliated with The New Horizons Academy. If you are interested in taking a writing class, check out the Academy. NHA is a worthwhile venture. Curiosity sent me on a venture to research some information about satellites. As far back as the 1950's crude balloons were being used to bounce communications around the airways. I found out a lot about the Echo Star 17 or Jupiter 1. Launched in 2012 It was launched with two other satellites one was for weather watching. Information about the weather satellite led me to D=R*T which is the formula for the pulse radar (radio waves) that are bounced off weather fronts. (I hope that is right?) The information about the communications satellite Echo Star 17 was not quite as spectacular as the information about how meteorologists get the news they give the public about local weather. Have a good day. ![]() |
![]() Monday. I'm back to reading two books at a time. I was going to dump one of them but it is a story about a federal detective in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Two chapters into the book it finally caught my attention and now I am trying to get it read so I can go back to writing. Three days until July 1. We had lots of rain in the early morning so once again I don't have to water the garden. We are having a real summer.'' I'm reading books about blogging. I hope it helps me be a better blogger! Have a great day. |
Yesterday was certainly a very busy day. So busy, I could not stop in to WDC. It is the end of June. Next week is the 4th of July and suddenly every one is catching up on scattered living needs. We started fuel gathering for winter and then a birthday party for a granddaughter. The birthday party was fun. all I had to do was sit on my Son's deck, eat food, follow the conversation and watch the kids swim. I'm working on mindfulness this month. I think July is going to be very busy. We are starting to plan for haying season to put in this years crop. The whole area seems to be having a good growing year. Mindfulness may help me keep centered . Summer will be busier now as the year moves forward. I'm off to finish some needed vacuuming. ![]() |
Well it is June 23. Summer is a proven fact. I have dentist appointment today. Ugh. I think its going to rain. ![]() I wrote a whole chapter yesterday that is 3 this week. I'm finding that if I just sit down and do it the words flow, I get involved and the writing moves forward. Not so much a chore as a fun habit that can be addicting. Have you noticed there are more stories out there lately about terrorist bombings. OK. I'll be blogging next month with the 30-day- challenge and probably reading and reviewing for the Monthly Reading Challenge when it is updated. Happy Writing. ![]() |
![]() Uber tweeted on June 21 that it was Giraffe Day. I missed it. I don't remember any Giraffe's around so I could not have celebrated with them any way. I wonder what kind of music a Giraffe would like? I wrote another chapter yesterday and I am aiming to write more today. I really enjoyed the Authors Newsletter about crime writing facts in my email. I remember the smell of gun oil on deer after they are shot. Now, I wonder if gun oil from a freshly cleaned rifle heats up and travels with the bullet into the game?? So. I'm off to read a blog and write some more. Happy Trails. |
![]() Sunday. My thoughts are toward the aging dilemma today. Since I like to read blogs I went online to find out what I could about aging blogs. www.mastersingerontology.com/top-50-aging-and-gerontology-blogs.html, This is a place that gives links to many blogs on aging. I have not explored them all yet but I will start today. I also found a free elder care website that is interesting but, I want to explore it more to find out more information before I would recommend it. http://www.elderhelpers.org/index2.php?gclid=CP6U5L2utM0CFYZefgodOtoDjA There are clear blue skies and a breeze today. It is going to be hot and dry. Have a great day! ![]() ![]() |
Imagination caught my attention today as I was reading the " Spiritual Newsletter: Life is like a " Game of Thrones."" Imagination in writings was mentioned in a comment from my notebook as well. This started me on a search about the content of the word, "imagination" One synonym for imagination is creativity. Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created....... That kind of makes you think doesn't it? Looking for a definition I found that imagination is a thought process that is not perceived by using the senses, smell, taste, hearing, touching and sight. If I see a robin hopping across my lawn that is a sense experience. If I see a red dragon walking across my lawn ![]() ![]() The scriptures I read today about imagination extend equally to good and bad uses of imagination. Good imagination is uplifting. Bad imagination well it just can do all kinds of damage. Imagination is using a mental image for good or evil. As I looked at the Wikipedia ideas about imagination I formed this definition: Imagination extending into the realm of the senses to do violence or change a normal function of life can be considered insanity. Using our imaginations to create fiction stories reaps all kinds of wisdom about how humans respond in different circumstances and it fuels our cautionary side. Sometimes research into a common word can reap the most unusual information. William Penn said, "It were endless to dispute upon everything that is disputable." |
