A Journal to impart knowledge and facts

July 22, 2015

I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.

I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.

I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

There are radio waves where we live that are not suppose to be affecting people. When my friends and family tried to tell me they were not there I dialed the sounds up on the AM radio and proved it. It sounds like Morris code.

Somewhere between 2002 and 2005 I was in a Math class at the college. We were discussing the wave lengths of sound. A teacher there told me the sounds being broadcast were illegal.

There are shortwave radio clubs near us. I'm guessing they are attempting to make people believe something religious about the sounds that are sometimes broadcast. Or, someone has an illegal broadcast. The last few years the sounds have not been broadcast. But, I heard them in August for a few days.

There are still some other high pitched sounds in the air. They are louder afternoons. My dogs hear them and go barking ballistic. Very annoying. Also, people around here try to harm the hearing on dogs so they won't alert people to high pitched sounds in the air.

One day last summer we had a day off from all electrical sounds in the air. The electricity was off for just a few hours during an afternoon. All high pitched electrical sounds were shut down. They were repairing some machines at local electrical plants. Someone sabotaged the local REC plant not many years ago. (do not remember, last summer or the summer before) The absolute silence was so peaceful.

Maybe this phenomenon is also found in other parts of the country. I just chalk it up to everyday Northwest Pa crazy. *Crazy* *BigSmile*

I know people often joke about TMI (too much information)...but all kidding aside, can too much information ever be a bad thing?

Manx Cat from Japan

Of course it can. Sometimes people just don't want to hear the details. Other people need the details in order to make decisions. Journalists rules say eliminate the picture of dead bodies because of the affect it can have on the viewer. Did you ever wonder exactly how the accident happened but no real details were given. Today, I think bodies are shown more because people are becoming jaded about death. But, after WWII, there were so many bodies and so much death people wanted to be protected by the media from the facts. It comes down to who you are and what the circumstances of the situation are.

Or just let it all out, don't take in account anyone's feelings, and blast away. *BigSmile*

Do you have any guilty pleasures when it comes to music...something you think no one else really knows you listen to and enjoy, or are maybe a little afraid to admit? (If this prompt doesn't really appeal to you, you can substitute music for television shows, or movies, or food...any kind of guilty pleasure, I suppose.)

What, are you a doing a psychology paper on Bloggers? If you are or are just drawing out personnel information to pass to someone I tell you now, don't do it You do not have individual permission for such shenanigans. If I sound paranoid or am out of order o,k. I live with a group of people who have actually done all those things to me and like to say, "we are experimenting on you." Ugly humanity in action. *Gag*

As for the prompt, at my age people have stopped feeling quilty about most odds and ends of living. If you are feeling quilty, find out why, move on. People mature mentally. Guilt is usually influenced by environment or what you think you should be and you aren't that person.

I listen to all kinds of music. My favorite right now is praise music by several different Jewish christian recording artists.

One group that I also like is Enigma. I was introduced to this group by a college student, who was a friend of my sons in the 90's. Interestingly, my horses respond to the recordings in a positive way. Animals actually do have preferences in music and radio programs. I could not find much on the recordings for Enigma the last time I looked, which was a couple years ago before I changed computers.

I have albums in western music, praise music of all kinds, soul music, instrumentals of all kinds, classical guitar, love songs, church music, rock and roll artists, music from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's. I don't feel quilty about any of it. I studied music theory in a christian college. I had a great music teacher there who actually showed me how to apply music theory, (which is written with piano in mind ), to guitar. I can play some piano. Do not own a piano. And I play some classical guitar (yes, own a guitar.)

My most disturbing thought is how sound is used to influence society in more than one way. I have excellent hearing. So, I insulate myself with quiet.

What's the biggest story in your hometown this weekend? Not where you're living now, but the place you were born (if they're not the same area).

Creation Saturday!

An eighth day has been added to the week, and you've been chosen to decide why. The only caveat (process to suspend, law, buyer beware ) is that whatever you decide must be done for at least eight of the extra 24 hours, and what you choose will become permanent for all of humanity until the end of time. What would you do, and why?

There was a knock on the door. Of course, when I opened it there stood Bufferin Bulberry. “ Mr. Bulberry please come in,” I said. “Will you have a seat?” “Perhaps I can get you some tea.” “That would be nice,” Bulberry answered. So, I spoke into the intercom on the desk and ordered a tea service for two.

Marla entered surprisingly soon, with a large tray holding thick white mugs, a decanter of tea, man sized ham sandwiches, cookies, and wedges of cheese. After the food and beverage was laid out she withdrew. I noticed a serious smirk as she pulled the door closed behind her.

I poured boiling hot tea into the mugs. As Bulberry leaned forward to fill his plate he spoke, “You can probably guess I am here to scrutinize your decision. Have you decided? The media is in their normal uproar and the committee would like to make the announcement as soon as possible.”

“Of course,” I said. “You do realize under the terms we agreed on, once I tell you the decision you must accept it without argument. It will become a part of the regular aspect of Society. It will be enforceable by law.

I could see Bulberry was having trouble swallowing the bite he was chewing on. “You did read all the terms didn’t you? If you didn’t I have a copy of the contract right here.” I handed him the two sheets of paper laying on the corner of the desk.

“This contract carries the full signature of the entire committee. They had not made me aware of the terms you’ve spoken just now. But, they did send me here so I guess I will have to abide by the contract as well,” Bulberry seemed to be speaking with a few misgivings, rubbing his forehead as he spoke.

I picked up the file laying on the desk and handed to him. “This is not a simple decision so I layered it into parts as you will see."

A. The 8th day will be considered a blessing to mankind.

1. Every other week People will choose their own recreation or rest for that day. It will be called the On Day.

B.In the alternate week the extra day will be called the Off Day.

1. The Off Day will be a service day to individuals or to society in general.

There will be multiple choices for adults and children. They can take a class or teach a class. Pick up trash in the streets, clean someone’s house, help the elderly, work in a farmer’s field, pick crops, You think of a helpful job and someone will work at it for 8 hours voluntarily. The Off Day will reap a compensation from the Government for funding any outlay the citizen may incur. Twenty-six weeks of the year, one day of each of those weeks, citizens will look for ways to learn and share new information and help each other. There are a lot of details to work out and there will be a lot of backlash. For those people who recognize the benefits there will also be a lot of reward.

“This is outrageous,” blustered Bulberry.” “ How will we ever make such a thing be accepted by the people? How will we police the situation so we know people are living the Off Day properly?”

“There is a whole staff of people presently working on the details. They are amazing people with a lot of vision,” I told him calmly. “We are going to build flexibility into the day so the elderly or sick are accounted for and people can continue in classes that take more than 8 hours to complete. We also have to be flexible to handle all the odd situations, that will come up that no one has thought about yet.”

“Now go make the announcement.” After he left I sat down to eat a sandwich and have a cup of hot tea. Marla came in to tidy up and remove the left over food. “He was sputtering all the way down the hall,” she said. “Why did you decide this is the way to handle the new day?” she asked.

“Financial instability, religious instability, greater uses of technology, rising crime rates, there are so many things forcing wedges between races and people in general. Yet, I can see that people on a one to one basis try to get along. They need a reason to get up on one day a week and try something new. Some will balk but most will find it a fun reason to renew their commitment to living if we can take the time to gently ease them into the swing of one new day a week. Just think of the potential for mankind when they themselves find new ways to help each other and have a day to put it into practice.”

News Flash!! *Smile*

“We interrupt this Blog with an Announcement.”

Please feel free to send Lists of the jobs you think people might like to spend their Off Day doing. Feel free to include things you would appreciate help with in your own environment. All suggestions are welcome.

On this day in 1492, the crew of the Pinta (one of Christopher Columbus' ships) mistakenly thought that they had spotted land. Your prompt: When has a trip of any sort not turned out as initially expected?

Manx Cat from Japan

In 1964 or 1965 I did not look up the dates so might be a little off. Anyway, my first husband and I were living in North Dakota. We were about to move to Texas. My husbands brother was stationed at an Air force Base in Texas. We were going to stop in Pennsylvania before the move to Texas.

A surprise telephone call came from Richard's (my husband) mother. She was visiting his brother and his wife in Texas and they decided to meet us in North Dakota and we could all drive back to Pennsylvania together in two cars. (Lots of room for luggage). *Cool*

On the drive from North Dakota, my mother-in-law rode in the back seat of Robert's (Brother-in-law) car. Madeline (mother-in-law) raised 4 boys. Richard and Robert were the oldest.

It was a wild ride. The boys loved to do things they thought would upset the mom. Like, keeping the soda in a cooler in one car and passing to the driver in the other car while speeding down the highway at 60 mile an hour. With the mom yelling, "You boys quit that." "Your getting to close. You"ll wreak the car." *Rant*

Nevertheless, Madeline was happy when the boys were around. Even though they were grown she was always willing to grab a newspaper and swat them while telling them how they should behave. They would all be laughing and she would be smiling. *Proud*

The wives were younger and already knew to keep quiet and serene because the stunts between the brothers were a given night or day. *Angelic*

Have you ever had to politely thank someone for something you would've normally found to be unwanted or offensive? How would you handle a situation like that?

Manx Cat from Japan

Yes! When I was younger I would tell them the truth. I would tell them why. Now I am not really up to combat. Besides, I had to put on a lot of armor over the years and I rarely take it off for any reason.

Yoga is helpful, breathe deeply look them in the eye and say, Thank-you. Or, God bless you can make them walk away fuming. Especially if you know they believe in power not God. Everything depends on who the person is or what their intent might be.

This is Northwestern Pennsylvania. The big excuse people like to give is--We are experimenting on you. Of course, you are suppose to think that is all right when it isn't. It helps to read church history and find out where that particular excuse came from. Studying science and the history of experiments done on humans is interesting.

If I seem off the subject maybe, but my life experience says that people who know and care about you give you gifts that fit. The others make excuses for their behavior or just have ulterior motives.

Have you ever lost yourself in the world of clouds or stars or in any other natural phenomenon? If yes, what did you see? Some random shapes, or some guiding strength?

I don't see pictures or fiction in clouds. I use the "National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Weather" to read clouds. How High are they today? Are they dark, white, cumulus, cirrus, or what are they bringing my way?

Stars are different. I like to read science fiction. I follow small amounts of science news. The Mars lander was interesting. I just downloaded a book by Edgar Rice Burroughs titled "A Princess of Mars" it is an eBook from www. Gutenberg.org.

When I first became serious about finding constellations I was excited to find the Northern Cross. I like to imagine what is out there in the star systems.

My college professor who taught College Algebra told me when I finished the section about graphs that I now had enough knowledge to find my way when I leave the earth. I know there is a way to leave the planet and travel to the stars and people will find it eventually. Some people may have all ready found the way to other places.

The Pope will be making a trip to the US very soon, and some citizens will be displaced due to his travel safety regimen. Has anything like this happened to you before, being stuck in traffic so a famous person could get by?

Yes. My first husband was in the Air Force stationed at Randolph Air Force Base. At the time diplomats and US Officials were often flying in and out of the Base. I kept my horses on the base at the stables. *CountryUS*

The military police would come around warning people when the base would be closed. So, we were suppose to be able to get off the base. Also, some of my friends lived in base housing so they would call in the morning if the gates were closed and sometimes do morning feeding for me if I could not get in and out of the stable area.

The worst was when President Johnson was flying in, to go, to the ranch. Often his staff would call ahead so the base would close, then something would come up to change his schedule in Washington so the base would remain closed to the public, until he was able to reconcile his schedule and get home.

If you were on base there would be a surge of traffic flowing off the base when the announcement was made. Anyone who lived off site and could leave their workplace would get out since getting off or in was not possible once the base was sealed. Traffic would be backed up because of traffic lights just off the base on the main road. It would also be bumper to bumper automobiles flowing through the gates. There was a main road out and all streets flowed into that main road.*FacePalm*

Don't ever mess with the USA military when it is on High Alert. *ThumbsUp*

Tell us about a certain memory that is triggered whenever you hear a specific song. Was the song actually playing at that moment, or is it something in the lyrics or the music itself that jogs your memory?

Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass (an album): I use it to increase my pace when cleaning house. The house gets clean really fast and I get lots of exercise dancing around with a vacuum or a mop. Plus, I have great cleaning partners.
