Tuesday August 22, 2023 1:40 PM I was having fits with my laptop today. I received it as a gift about 8 months ago. Adjusting to the frequent whirring of the cooling fan was hard. Short of taking it in or mailing it in to be adjusted further, it is something I have to live with. Today it was not the fan, but it was running like a slug. I am sure my 11 year old grandson or my older one who makes his living in IT could have fixed me right up. I decided I could follow online instructions. It took me awhile, but, now I am galloping like the wind and pretty proud of myself. ** Image ID #2303042 Unavailable ** This photo was taken by little sister, Bev, who turned 68 today. She is an avid hiker and has a robust portfolio of photos. She currently volunteers as a "Trail Angel" on the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon. The PCT was the trail featured in the 2014 film "Wild". The movie tells the true story of Cheryl Strayed who walked the PCT alone when she was 27 years old. I highly recommend the movie. Trail Angels provide free transportation for hikers as they move from one part of the trail to another. They may need to go for supplies, or return to a prior place to retrieve something. There are as many reasons as there are hikers. The angels provide "angel magic" by stocking snacks and drinks at points along the trail. With one of her hiking buddies, she prepare lunches for groups of a dozen or so hikers once a week. The hikers' stories are filled with things they experienced on the trail. There are funny and serious ones. She served a 90 year old hiker a few weeks ago. One couple from the Netherlands did not speak a word of English. Another pair of hikers needed to travel a long distance. I have forgotten the reason, but, she drove them 360 miles that day. Her Honda CR-V just turned over 200K miles. "Good for another one hundred thousand," she told me. I am going to seek out a second piece to review today then move on to school work. tracker |

Friday August 18, 2023 1:00 PM I was not on WDC much yesterday. A girlfriend received a very grim cancer diagnosis. I spent the day trying to process that. I also caught up on sleep. Some of you know I sleep 4 hours a night if I am lucky. Every so often I get some catch up sleep. I have several writing projects I am working on. First, though, I pulled up my blog. To my surprise I saw the fabulous light blue award. I clicked on it and see it was awarded today. l THANK YOU Princess Megan Rose 22 Years ![]() Excuse me for shouting. Appreciating one another here makes WDC unique. I could not snap out of my sad mood. Then, this Awardicon comes my way. The timing is perfect. The recognition is wonderful. I write in my blog whatever comes to mind. I usually will then find something to visually connect to what I have talked about. Thank you Megan for pulling me out of my doldrums. I am thrilled that you enjoy reading my blog. Light blue is one of my favorite colors too! ![]() |
Tuesday August 15, 2023 11:08 AM ** Image ID #2302600 Unavailable ** ** Image ID #2302598 Unavailable ** Look at this neat notebook! It is one offered at the WdC shop. It is a nifty one. I use it for writing down codes, ideas, and just about anything. The WdC ballpoint pen is included! $9.50 or 95K GPS I am on PDT. My lesson today is not to edit my blog after midnight WdC time. It changes the posting date to the next day. I understand the reasoning. Most sites that I have been with allow you to backdate at least one day. I will put that in the suggestion box. My nickname at work was tracker "detail". It is a hindrance rather than a help. My daughter gave me a little gift a couple of days ago. It is a cute daily calendar made up of pre-printed sheets. Areas are designated for specific notes like "Don't forget". It was super helpful yesterday. Long gone are the days when a couple of dozen follow-ups were kept upstairs in my mind, not on paper. I have a couple of things to accomplish today. I have completed one review and it is only 10ish. I have a thank you email to write, and a couple of other pieces of correspondence. I will drop in on someone on IM. A person was trying to embed something and it does not stick. The coding is accurate as far as I can tell. I need to contact the person first before asking for help on their behalf. I have added looking for the suggestion box and writing up possibly backdating stuff for transparency. ** Image ID #2302599 Unavailable ** I will take a photo of one page in my new notebook. My own transparency is evident as I show a sample of how I have used them instead of boring you with a blank sample. ![]() |

Saturday August 12, 2023 7:00 PM My fingers are determined to touch each key correctly. I need to rephrase that. My mind is determined to direct my fingers to accurately touch type this blog entry. I remember the typing class I took in the summer class between my junior and senior high school years. I played classical piano from the age of four, so typing came naturally. I developed a showmanship typing style that would gain Liberace's approval. Tonight, the appendages are worn out. I can feel the stabbing pain in my hands. I rarely take anything for pain. It must be some sort of sick kind of silent self-flagellation to what purpose, I have no clue. The technical term is carpal tunnel syndrome. It has been a nice day. Touching base with my favorite people and now waiting for the lasagna to cool and eat. I think I will look around in my spiffy medicine bag for something to ease the pain. tracker |
Friday August 11, 2023 12:00 AM DAY 2822 August 11, 2023 Blog City Prompt Use these words in your entry today: reticent, preen, wiggle, jiggle, giggle and dance floor. My late parents got married on this date in 1942. They were opposites, Dad outgoing and Mom the introvert, who fell in love during their senior high school year. My dad was the drum major of the marching band. He was living with his aunt and uncle in Pennsylvania. He had bright red, curly hair. He spent an hour preening in the morning to get the unruly hair to lay flat. My mom would demonstrate how she pictured him slicking gunk on it to make it stay flat and I would giggle at the image of that. His parents sent him to Pennsylvania because he kept playing hooky from school in Brooklyn, New York City. Without reticence, he would go see a Big Band play. His favorite was the Benny Goodman Band. My Mom's favorite was the Glenn Miller Band. She told me the story about how he was shot down while flying somewhere over Europe during WWII. The two of them would play their favorite Big Band tunes turning our living room into a dance floor. They loved dancing cheek to cheek, but, after a slow dance the next snappy tune saw them wiggle and jiggle the jitterbug. When I was six, I remember thinking they were out of their loving minds, and I would giggle. That was one of my mother's favorite sayings. Her other favorite saying, usually directed at Dad, was you make me so mad; I could hit you over the head with a brick. Dad was determined to listen to the music of his day in person. Our great-aunt and uncle did not allow him to work. He could not afford the price of tickets. He started to attend his self-compensated events when he went to a matinee performance by Artur Rubinstein at a large theatre, maybe Madison Square Garden. He sneaked in through the musicians' door, listened to the piano concert from the stage wing, and met the master as he left the stage to roaring applause. My Dad was not shy about talking to anyone. When he ended his career at Entertainment Tonight, he rubbed elbows with tons of celebrities. Sneaking into a Benny Goodman concert was the pinnacle of his illegal concert attendance. We threw a huge fiftieth wedding anniversary party for them. By that time Dad was in a wheelchair due to emphysema. Mom had ovarian cancer when she passed away five years after he did. Sometimes, I think back to the day each died. I did not feel sad, but, felt glad. My parents were good parents and were in love to the end. Shhhh! Don’t tell my siblings, but each of our parents came to me on separate occasions to tell me I was their favorite child of the five of us. I felt it my entire life. What a joy to remember them in the living room dancing cheek to cheek. "Blog City Prompt Forum" ![]() |
Thursday August 10, 2023 10:30 AM & 7:30 PM I am moving at 110mph today. I know there won't be enough hours in today to get all finished that I have planned. I have committed to new habits. I have done one review and the next one is ready to start. There are the regular morning chores but I came to WdC first and the chores still wait. Later. I finished a few things. It was a day of jumping from one frying pan to the next. Mix in a two hour nap and some wild games of UNO and there went the time. Tomorrow will be better. ** Image ID #2302317 Unavailable ** |
