Welcome to WdC
&
Congrats on your gifted upgraded membership!

Your writing must have already made an impact on someone who wants to encourage you to stick around! *Bigsmile* There's a page you can visit to post a thank you for an anonymous gift, but for the life of me I can't find it – maybe someone else will pop in and post the link. *Think*

I hope you find the community here as welcoming and helpful to you and your writing as I have. There are too many fabulous newbie resources to list here, but I encourage you to take your time getting familiar with all WdC has to offer. Hanging around on the Community Newsfeed is a great way to get to know folks become familiar with the lay of the land, as well as give your own posts, and your writing, the most exposure. (Make sure you click Community on the left menu bar, then Community Newsfeed at the top of the popup menu - the simple "Newsfeed" link will show you only those posts made my members you've favorited or fanned.)

Quick (for me *Wink*) note on becoming a fan of an author versus a favorite: To follow a writer, click the plus sign next to their name (handle) and the plus sign will change into a finger with a string tied around it – this adds them to your favorites. Click the icon again to change the icon into a megaphone and you become a fan. Making someone a favorite only makes sure you'll see their posts on your personal newsfeed. I think it's the general consensus that it's best to fan other writers, because they'll receive a notice that you're a new fan. There are lots of generous writers around here who reward their fans with Merit Badges, Gift Points, etc. It also gives you visibility. When I receive a new-fan, I check out their portfolio, read their bio, and usually fan them back.

There are many generous writers and I love so many people I've met here, but I have to recommend fanning Schnujo's NOT Doing NaNoWriMo Author IconMail Icon to get you started *Wink*Schnujo's NOT Doing NaNoWriMo is great at giving newbie tips and is far more succinct than I *Bigsmile* *HeartV*

Good luck and happy writing! *HeartRainbow*

Welcome, Aurora Elwood! It's great to meet you! Definitely fan (click the plus sign until you see the megaphone) these folks! As you see, they're friendly and helpful. *Smile*

The same goes for activities you find, but notice that Plus on the link Mike posted? To fan that item, you have to go into the forum and click the Plus in the upper right corner. If you click it from here or in the top of the forum by the title and author's name, etc., you are only fanning the forum owner, not the forum. I did that a LOT when I was a newbie. *Laugh*

Anyway, welcome!
I can't see how to respond to individual comments to my original post, so I'm just going to comment on the post itself to say thank you to the three kind souls who responded and hope you all see it. I appreciate all of the helpful tips and information. I have fanned you all and look forward to checking out your work! *HeartRainbow*
