I read the Wax Doll. Nice story. I didn't go back to the original because my French isn't good. That said... a couple footnotes or endnotes or something may be helpful as people today aren't very familiar with wax or porcelain dolls or for that matter... anything handmade and fixable. A burial? Yes, I can see that. It translates culturally and across the centuries. I think/speak American and Central-American. My French was learned in grade school (good pronunciation, not so good comprehension). My Brazilian/Portugues and Western Norwegian are rough at best. I'm learning Thai/Lao as I hope to visit Isan in NE Thailand. |
At some point, I'll look into going through and adding notes explaining what might not be common knowledge today.
