Hello!
I was working on a fantasy romance, but my character's stopped talking to me. But some other's popped up wanting their story told (an erotic romance). Unfortunately, their stories as set in New Orleans, a place I've never been. I've been doing a lot of research on the area and have read quite a few books set in that general area, but there are two areas I'm having some trouble with, scents, sounds and locations. So, I'm looking for a bit of help from anyone who lives in, or has visited, that area.
Aside from food, coffee, and the smell of vomit and urine around Bourbon St., I'm kind of at a loss. What other scents linger in the air? Are there specific plants that perfume the air during specific seasons, or in specific places? What does it smell like near the bayou? Is the air tinged with the scent of salt from the ocean?
What about typical sounds that are heard in and around the city, the bayou, the river? Various types of music, horse drawn carriages and other vehicles, including streetcars, crocodiles, and people, sure. But are there other birds or animals you hear a lot of, either all over, or in specific areas? And are there any other sounds I should be aware of?
And lastly, I'm trying to find the perfect spots for the heroine's home, and a very secluded, very large and elegant, private night club/sex club. I want both buildings to be pretty secluded and near water, the river, the bayou, doesn't matter which. I want the home to have about 5 or 6 acres of land around it that's uninhabited. I want the club to have MUCH more. I don't want any homes or businesses within a few miles of the club, and I want it to be kind of tucked away, so that if a person didn't know it existed, they wouldn't ever know that it was there.
Thanks in advance for any help! It's deeply appreciated!

Hi crazycatnbooklady Author IconMail Icon If you post some stuff, fill out a bit of your bio, it helps encourage the membership to interact... we love chatting, reading, and most of all telling you what we think!!!!

Are there any feeds, blogs or forums or sites on writing with an accent that any of you would recommend? Specifically, Scottish or Irish accents? With things like, calling a wrench a spanner or changing can't to cannae, or slang terms, phrases, swear words and other insults.
Thanks!
On the off chance that my long lost friend Humble Poet PNG Author Icon stops by, I'm tagging him about your request. He sometimes uses words like cannae -- when we're chatting *Wink* so he might be able to help you out or point you in some useful direction. *RollEyes* I haven't heard from him in a few weeks, so he's due for a check-in *Bigsmile*
Hello! and Ugh! I totally need some help and/or advice. Since my teen years, I won't get into just how long ago that was, I've started and stopped writing so many books. I get frustrated, I get writers block, I procrastinate, or I just think my writing is no damn good. And now I've started another story and I haven't even gotten past chapter 1 and already I'm tweaking things, rearranging things, deleting things. . . I just can't seem to stop myself and it is making me crazy!! How do I stop this insanity before I scrap yet another book? Is anyone willing to take a peek at it, what very little there is, and tell me if it is no damn good?

Oh, 3 other things:

1. Welcome to WdC *Hug1**Smile**Hug2*

2. Everyone thinks they're terrible, it doesn't mean they are. It's called imposter syndrome.

3. If you think your first draft should be shredded and incinerated, you're probably doing something right.

4. If you keep editing while you write the first draft, you'll struggle to get very far. Sometimes, you need to let things be and just move on. Editing is great - after the fact.

5. Apparently, I can't count. *Laugh*
Hey, hey, I brought my friends with me, and both ladies had lots of great advice.

You can do NaNo here on WdC or nationally. Or both. I told you we had you covered!

And JayNaNoOhNo #mathishard. *Laugh*
Hmm...ladies? This one don't know no ladies. *Rolleyes* *Rolling*

(And hey, I got to five on JayNaNoOhNo Author Icon's list and didn't know what the problem was! *Laugh*)
