Sadness. Writer's Cafe is glitching. I really hope it is temporary as it holds the most up to date versions of my chapters. And I'll miss my WC friends.

I know WDC is also a great community, but having been with WC longer I've already developed great connections there that I would sorely miss.
And by glitching I mean "unidentified ... debug .. unable to connect".
I love the random review feature, but is there anyway I can set parameters? I strongly prefer short stories over articles and poems, yet sometimes I'll get ten poem/articles in a row.

Is this possible?
Aha. ...
I just figured out how to request reviews.
Looks like I finally have a place to use all these gift points I've been collecting.
Writing.Com makes a whole lot more sense now.
I am fascinated by how WDC takes a cut of certain gift point transfers.
I've just edited an item in my portfolio:
Weeds Open in new Window. (13+)
After the fall of civilization, a survivor sells information to those hiding in cities.

Had the writing epiphany that adverbs are lazy and typically ought to be replaced with more personal description.
My favorite part about Writing.com compared to other sites I use, is that it keeps track of all the reviews I have yet to say thank you for. It stops us forgetful folk from forgetting to follow through :)

I also just created my first 'review tool' template and am rearing to test it out :D
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Someone anonymously upgraded my account for a few months :D :D :D

What I nice motivation booster half way through the week.
Ah! So thrilled. I just received my first merit badge. I know others have hundreds of merit badges, so my ego isn't flying too out of control, but it's up there :)

Click on the badge and get the badge ID#. Use: {badge:ID#} and you can post it. It's your first of many I'm sure. Congrats!
I know how you feel! When I received my first one I was on cloud nine. Now, when I get one, I am higher than cloud nine!m And I even received an awardacon!!!! How happy I am with all these wonderful people that think enough of me to send these to me. How special is that??

Lynda with a Y Keep up the good good work!
I've added a new item to my portfolio:
Call of the Drum Open in new Window. (18+)
Villanelle. Characterizes death as a drum beat.

This is my favorite villanelle.
Now that I realize my port only holds 10 I have to be pickier with what I add.
Talk with cinnamon fringe, she help with upgrade nominations from RAOK Group..ive had mine bout 3 days. Then you can post way more!
Blegh. C'mon people. Give the appropriate content rating. I used to have it so I wouldn't see GC and above. I did a random review. An 18+ chapter popped up. 18+ means you can reference you-know-what. IT DOES NOT MEAN YOUR CHARACTERS CAN START HAVING you-know-what.
Blegh. I'm hear to learn and write and review and socialize. NOT READ THAT.
I get that some people enjoy that, but I don't want to read it much less review it.
So now I'm blocking 18+ unfortunately.
I'd rather miss out on some good 18+ stories than be surprised by mislabeled GC or XGC material.

As I have it now I can enter a passcode to unblock certain 18+ items if I know the author.

Thanks Lynda with a Y. Yay for a possible solution :)

I should take into account that the user who mislabeled her story did not do it on purpose.
Please, we don't need any additional ratings. Now, just the mention of words like 'lesbian', "homosexual', 'down the hall to the bedroom', keep items from being 13+, yet society is filled with "sexual thoughts" by all people of every age not as "you know what" as if sexuality is from Hell; it isn't, it's part of every life from teenagers to old age, it's part of humanity from eons ago; some words like "lesbian, gay, bride, groom, honeymoon, etc. cause readers to have their own personal, actually true or not, images to keep them from reading. Even the Bible has words that make it GC with the sexual images in Song of Solomon as I recall as a teenager in the fifties when teenage girls looked specifically for those images. So let's not get too involved in drawing more lines in the sand because of sexuality which every single person thinks of privately and experiences at some point in their lives. By the way, NOT all lesbian and gay stories are sexual; love is love from the heart, above the waist, so don't fear GLBT as if it's taboo writing; too many here do.
best4writing - I didn't say anything about GBLT. I don't think Lynda with a Y was suggesting additional ratings. I think she was suggesting that what ratings mean should be more visible.

I'm not saying sex should be banned from writing, just properly labeled so that I can choose not to read it. What I stumbled upon wasn't references or mere sexual thought - the act was described in detail.

I respect sex as a valid topic for fiction, but I ask that such writers respect my choice to be a prude.

I most certainly am NOT against reading GBLT. I just don't want to read the graphic details of sex no matter what the genders of those involved are.
Did not meet my writing goals for the day.
Not sure where the day went.
Did a smidge of revising, but did not accomplish the 3 writing goals I specifically detailed on my to-do-list.

Does it count that I opened the three relevant documents?
No it does not.

Objective failed.

This is me being accountable. I rather prefer accountability when I have something productive to report.
I've added a new item to my portfolio:

Children walk home from school, but not all their homes are the same.

I had a lot of fun with tabbing and formatting.
I've added a new item to my portfolio:

A villanelle - I'm addicted to villanelles :) - with a dark twist to a prompt to write about your first pet.

It's post-apocalyptic. I had the idea one day. Wrote it the next. Edited it the day after. Proud of the speed, moderately proud of the end product.

Tell me what you think :)
Appreciating the constructive criticism :)

Feeling inspired!
