Hello! Welcome to Writing.com. My name is Patrick. Sometimes those of us on the site decide we need to personally welcome our newcomers, because this site can be quite overwhelming for those who are new. I know what you're thinking. You think I'm a bot! Some silly creation by the system to make you think you are welcomed by a flesh-and-blood human being. Well, I assure you I'm not. Don't believe me? Feel free to send me an email and say "hello." If you do, I will buy you a raffle ticket in a current raffle that gives you a chance to win some Gift Points to start you off and I will send you 250 Gift Points myself! I have very little space to give you all the advice about the site that you need, but here are some basics for you to start with: Upload some items into your portfolio so that others can review your work. If you don't have anything, this is great time to write something new! On the top-left side of your screen is a box of links that begins with "Things to Do and Read." Explore these links to see what's going on, for this is a very accessible gateway into our community. There are contests you can enter, activities to partake in, other items to read and review, people to chat with ... more things to do than you can imagine! I highly recommend you look to enter some contests. This is a great way not only to improve, but also to make new friends and wade out into the community. Review the work of others. Be sure to look to "Guidelines To Great Reviewing" for guidance on what is expected of reviewers on WDC. Also, on the left side of your screen, is a small section with CREATE, REVIEW, Authors, Bloggers, and Reviewers. Click on "Reviewers" to go to the public review page, the real hub of Writing.com. On this constantly updating scroll of public reviews, you can see how other reviewers craft their reviews for the community. If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me, and I promise to respond in a timely manner. Have fun while you explore, and don't forget to write! |
