Hello, last private corner of the internet world…. I’m not *back*, I mostly have an inquiry:

I recently started ice skating, and with that, private lessons. Do I need to get my instructor a holiday gift? I mentioned to her previously that my family doesn’t celebrate because my mom is adamant we shouldn’t celebrate a different religion’s holiday when we’re not of that faith 😅

I have said instructor on my social media so I can’t quite go there to poll the people. 😅

IMHO - gift-giving is personal. If it is a means to show gratitude for what the instructor is doing for you, then I see no issue with that. You may have to keep it from your family, but it is not celebrating a holiday or event, just you saying, "Thank you."

But, in the end, the decision is yours.

I guess my dilemma is, I’m pretty short on disposable income right now, to where I’ve been thinking of hand-making stuff for people for the holidays (work parties, white elephant etc) but my mom said not to do something handmade for the teacher 🤷‍♀️

This seems to be the last safe corner of the internet (as of right now). I don’t dare post this on reddit for fear they find that too:

My 6th grade students found my (then public, now private) IG account. They shared the link around and took screenshots of my profile, then told the class/me openly that they found it, describing my posts, naming my handle, and quoting my bio.
Deeply disturbing and feeling violated, as they talked about my mom as well.

Legally, I doubt there’s any case to build on this, but disciplinarily-speaking, is there something admin can do?

Annette Author Icon - they came to the classroom today at lunch, Waving a phone around, with my Halloween and Christmas/Thanksgiving pictures screenshotted, asking if it was me, and saying that it looked like me. I have contacted administration about it, Hopefully something can be done because at this point, it is absolutely harassment.
