Well, today we continued our search for a Motorhome. Today's highlight was seeing a Class B+ (Van) in Champaign Illinois. It was a beraty! A 2009, Pleasure Way Ascent TS, powered by a 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel Engine. Sadly, though it looked so wonderful, it was in need of a few minor repairs. The roof air conditioner needed work, possibly replaced (~$2000). It would trip the house breaker when first started, but would work fine the second or third try. That told me the compressor is probably drawing too much current, and probably needs to be replaced. Additionally, the lady seling it said it was louder than those in newer vehicles. There were a couple of other issues, but I can't recall them right now. What it boiled down to is, aftger we'd spend maybe $50,000 to purchase it, we'd be spending another ~$5000 to correct those problems. I loved it, even with those problems. But the boss says no. Ya gotta keep the peace in the house, huh. So, we're not getting it. The search continues....
🌖 HuntersMoon - Well, she was asking almost $60,000 for it. We thought $50,000 was fair. WE never discussed money with her, My wife (I felt the same way too, she just said it before I did) that $50,000, plus who knows how much more was not what we wanted. The woman was very honest with us, she could have hidden tihngs, but never tried. For a 2009 vehicle, it was a beauty. I think our hearts are on a Class B, maybe a C. We just need to find the right one.
I ordered this challenge coin a while back. Since I typically have the lighthouse on my suitcase here, I thought it would be great to have this be a commissioned Merit Badge! Not sure if I'd make it for general use or not.
The flip side is a compass with the phrase 'Seek Your Own Path'. That may become a Merit Badge also.
Oh Heaven Help me. Tuesday we came close to deciding to drive to Versailles Kentucky to look at a 24' Motorhome. After a night of sleep, we said, "Nope, not gonna do it." I've had my mind on something else recently though, and really want to see this thing. What is it? Well, you may remember that I currently have a 2014 Ford Transit Connect Van, Titanium Model. I've had it for over 5.5 years now.
A local dealership has a 2022 Transit Connect Van, XLT Model (Not the Titanium model). It's dark blule in color. My van is considered a bit rare, since the brown color you see was not on many passenger vans. Plus, most of these vans are not passenger vans, they're work vans.
I'm only considering the upgrade because mine is now 11 years old, almost 12. I love that van, so am unsure about things. What to do, what to do. I do need to see the van and what all it has to offer. Just a general inspection is all. They're asking $24K for it. Considering the work that I've had done (by the same dealership) this year, I should (emphasis on that key word Should) be able to get a better than their initial offer for trade-in. Yeah, I realize that money I spent on fixing it does not come back as trade-in money, but still.... And since I'm happy with what I have, they'll either get very close to what I want, or I'll keep what I have.
If you can pay cash, go for it. However, if it's your second vehicle, it doesn't consume fuel while sitting in the driveway. Debt service remains excessively high; it is not a good time to willingly take on additional financing. Says a guy who owes nobody anything beyond a cheerful morning greeting. But then I am the luckiest guy in the country... or so my wife tells me.
I went to see that van today and decided I'll keep mine. That 2022 Van doesn't offer anything I don't already have with mine, other than the chance to spend some money.
