I had my eyes glued to the T.V. this morning while watching the catch attempt by SpaceX and my wife was trying to get my attention to look at something on her phone. No, no. My eyes are glued. Sorry! Now that is my kind of sport SpaceX was 'sporting'. Gateway to the stars and Science Fiction becomes Science Fact! |
I was considering a story concept in which the government would require Americans to pay a percentage of their savings immediately to pay off the National Debt. So, I asked Copilot what percent that would be thinking it would be 2 or 3 %. Not even close. Try 1478 percent, which means all our (personal) savings are not even close to paying it off. Maybe the story would have to take another route. Incubators to increase the population? Building robots and giving them citizenship with a taxable income? Even in stories, I am not smart enough to figure this out. Now I am depressed. But, I am over it. It is just stories after all. Right? |
I've never had a head for economics. As every country seems to have an eye-watering level of debt, I'm always left wondering who the hell they owe it to, and where did the lenders get that amount of money in the first place. And if they owe it to each other, why don't they just do the sums to figure out the residual amount that one owes the other? I'm always left with a mental picture of a Blofeld-type character in his secret layer, rubbing his hands together and waiting for the whole crazy system to collapse. I always love the idea that occasionally rears its head in western Europe where it's mooted that people should have more kids to pay more taxes to cover the costs of e.g. care of the elderly. Now there's a pyramid scheme if ever there was - what happens when that generation get old themselves? Do we all breed like rabbits ad infinitum? |
Considering that lots and lots (and lots) of Americans don't have savings because they are living paycheck to paycheck, this tracks. |
