Today I went to the bookstore, which is always a bittersweet experience. I adore browsing the shelves to find a few books and seeing what's new in the world of books. At the same time I'm sad though because I just want to see my own novel on the shelf but instead its just stuck in my head. So far though my newest challenge for myself (writing at least 500 words a day) has been going well. And today I got three books for research for my novel, a writing prompt book, and yet another book that I hope will help me finally write a novel. Fingers crossed! |
I watched a neat video on YouTube, that promised to cure writer's block with a single sentence: Give yourself permission to write garbage.
I found myself agreeing with most of what they said in the video. They described writer's block as being more than just having a hard time thinking of something to write. It's also a condition where you are far too critical of what you do write.
Many times, when you're in the darkest pit of that writing affliction, you manage to squeeze out a few hundred words, and if you happen to not scrap them, you walk away feeling like it's absolute trash. But if you come back to it a few days later, often you'll find it's not that bad, and sometimes, it's pretty darn good.
Aiming for 500 words and you ended up knocking out almost 3 times that much. I have to second the TINMAN 4000 on this one. Bravo!
