Nature never stops evolving, so why should zombies? Create a short story featuring a brand-new species of zombie. Showcase how they’ve evolved and what makes them hilariously—or horrifyingly—different from the stereotypical undead that we're all familiar with in pop culture. Do they glow in the dark? Sing to attract prey? Herd humans like cattle? Or maybe they’ve evolved an insatiable hunger for something bizarre—like socks, selfies, or dad jokes. From climate-specific adaptations to outright ridiculous traits, your new zombies should defy convention, break the mold, and maybe even apply for a job at Walmart. If they’ve already got brains, it’s only fair to let the zombies use them. This is an activity, not a contest. If you write, you win.

Jeremy - I'm headed back on the 28th... by then the first week of chaos may make me wonder why I came back at all. We'll see. I expect a lot of it is hot air and a bluff; but DJT's rhetoric has deeply injured people in the past. |

Reentering the dating scene after a failed relationship can feel overwhelming. Sometimes you strike out. Sometimes you go on a few dates and then get ghosted. But then, other times, you get to say, "Next Round's On Me" . |
Round One of The Writing Dead has concluded. In this activity, if you write, you win. There were 6 qualified entrants which means not only are all participants receiving the monthly community merit badge for Round One, but we've crossed the necessary threshold to roll virtual dice for one of this round's writers to win the exclusive zombie merit badge*. But this is the inaugural round. And I'm the only judge. So guess what? Everyone that entered Round One is getting the exclusive zombie merit badge. And 5,000 Gift Points! I will also be giving each submitted story a review before the close of Round Two. "It Came Upon A Midnight..." by S 🤦 "The Day Before Christmas" by Madelyn 'Frosty' Stone "Insidious" by Amethyst Snow Angel "Dad's Christmas Story" by Wordsmith John "Epidemic Z: North Pole Edition" by Ms. TerrifyingTuber "White Walker Christmas" by KingsSideCastle ROUND TWO - OPEN January's Prompt: Zombies have . . . evolved! Create a brand-new species of zombie. Showcase how they’ve evolved and what makes them hilariously—or horrifyingly—different from the stereotypical undead that we're all familiar with in pop culture. This is an activity, not a contest. If you write, you win.
*merit badges will be sent out later this afternoon or as soon as community recognition resets; gift points will be sent with each review. |
I was the only entrant this past round of the The LGBT Writing Contest - reopens Feb . While it's disappointing—queer voices are important and so are the spaces that allow those voices to be heard—I am incredibly proud of the piece I submitted. I believe it has an incredibly important message that transcends sexuality with a universal theme: self-acceptance. The ability to see yourself without filter, to feel comfortable within your own skin, to have the safety and comfort of loving yourself without conditions, and the freedom to be who you are without fear of compromise or reprisal. Not everyone has the luxury, privilege, or environment in which to experience what so many of us take for granted or have to even consider in our daily lives. My goal in this New Year is to ensure those around me are supported before they have to ask for it—to show them through action that they are loved, seen, heard, and protected in my presence. For those with the curiosity, time, and/or kindness to read my work, I'd love to hear your feedback. Some of the characters are gay, but it's a story that's accessible to everyone. The only thing to be forewarned about is the presence of adult language. Thank you for your consideration, my friends |
Jeremy Not all of my writings have a discernible LGBT theme. Some definitely do! But this contest has a 1000-5000 word limit and I rarely write in that range. |
Okay. So. Yeah. We're . . . doing "The Bradbury" .

Thank you, Lilli!
