Try free writing. Set the clock at 15-20 minutes and just write, regardless. Sometimes the Muse needs a little push.

When I first joined, I just wandered round people's portfolios to see what was going on, read some stuff and, whenever I had a "How do they do that?" question, I went to the 101 document. Take your time and don't try to figure out everything at once.
