My mom, whom I live next door to, slipped on some wet leaves outside and twisted as she went down. Her tibia, the long front bone in the leg, jammed into her ankle bone—it broke many bones or pieces of ‘stuff’ along the way. The x-ray is included just for shits and giggles. Very painful, but they reduced it—pulling that tibia out of the ankle bones while sedated with propofol in the ER—then it didn’t hurt so much. Spent five days in a hospital room waiting for the only doctor willing to operate, and an ankle expert, for surgery. It was such a horrific injury no one wanted to touch it. It’s colloquially known as an internal decapitation injury. If you break bones in your neck there’s just tissues supporting the head. Refers to that. She could have lost her foot, but at 76 years old, I’m so glad she didn’t! So this happened on December 25. She just got home. I’ve been pretty sick with my own illness and injuries, so a friend is helping us. Some. Enough to help with trash, getting the mail at the po box, and any stuff my knee can’t handle. A real blessing. Once again I am thwarted from being here! Lol. Growing old is definitely not for sissies. In the meantime, my sister will be undergoing radical surgery and then radiation for her breast cancer. She’s already completed six months of chemo. We aren’t able to be with her due to our health, so it’s been a really hard year. Mostly I take care of her dog and ten cats 😏 Loving the cat shenanigans, but the dog takes my energy small as he is. We had to rehome two big dogs. No choice. We got slammed with five cat strays we rescued last year. I also have four of my own, though they are extremely close and very self sufficient. Hers have some wild and crazy, still learning domestication and how to trust people, issues. Understandably. I desperately need to commune with my WdC people and community, so maybe soon 2024 will prove more felicitous than 2023. In the meantime, I gotta get laundry in and cooking done. Ahh but my orange maine coon-ish cat, Luke, is purring and making a loaf of bread on me… Normal ankle VS. mom Rose’s ankle before reduction and surgery Take care, peeps! ~Whata Adrie |
You made a "signature" for me awhile back and I saved a copy on my computer. I have been away for some time but back and writing. I have a upgraded membership. Can I use a signature such as the one you made under that membership? If so, can I up load my copy to Writing.com? If not, maybe you can recreate it if I can show it to you?? Thanks, Sandy Davison West (Seabreeze) |
On another note: Wow! That's a lot of cats to take care of. Nake sure to take a lot of deep breaths and try to make time for yourself!
