I like the directness of the poem. Its shortness, I would suggest is better described using the literal meaning of the word 'brevity', as it says so much without a word wasted. The last line is particularly good as it breaks with the solitary imagery running throughot the rest of the poem, which in every sense until then led me firmly to the belief it would end in death or blood. Indeed my preconceptions were sent scattering. The 'technicolor confetti' finale, cleverly I think, literally 'throws' the reader. Liked this a lot.

The second poem of yours I have read. This is wonderful. Well-crafted and wise with it. You have a knack for capturing the essence of something and giving it full and rich expression. Love this!

This poem stills a scene from nature and makes it all too human. I thought it did this extremely well. I know that certain birds such as Swans and Doves mate for life and appear to go into mourning when the other dies. Knowing this I think, added to my enjoyment of this poem, particularly in how I digested lines such as 'Her natural impulse was so strong...'
(An added bonus to the pleasure of reading this poem - I now know what a Merganser is, having looked it up).
Liked it a lot- keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more of your stuff.
