I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

I recommend getting a program that reads aloud to you for proofreading purposes. I use Natural Reader since I bought it many years ago, but these days, you can get tts programs for free or simply access them from your browser. Here is a nice, free one: https://ttsreader.com/

I'm over 30, and I still don't think it is fair for older people to dismiss the struggles of younger people. I saw an offensive sign at my local middle school and asked God for a pencil so I could correct it. She gave me one, so I wrote on the sign. A teacher saw me doing it but didn't stop me because I'm a grown woman with a toddler.

This is a beautiful piece. I have one two-year-old, and I'm thankful that I've always had the time and resources to be patient with him. Many parents, especially single parents or those who are struggling financially, don't have the luxury of waiting for their children to learn how to dress themselves as they have to rush out the door to drop their children off at daycare and head to a job. For some, one income isn't enough because the cost of rent and food keeps going up. For some, death or illness has changed the family's financial situation. What would you say to parents who don't have the luxury of being as patient as they should?
