I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

This provides a lot of food for thought. The statement about teaching school children caught my attention. I spent some time teaching merit badges, and I watched another person teach the same material. She wasted time lecturing the students about respect, which I saw as disrespectful to the students, who weren't even acting up in the first place. Personally, I just dive right into the material and get so excited about it that my excitement rubs off on the students.

This is an interesting premise, but it could use a lot more development. I know a woman who was kicked out of the house at 18. Her parents also made her sleep in the garage until then because they wanted a boy. She has some mental health issues as a result.
