The flow in this felt a little off to me, emotions a little disconnected. The thought behind the whole idea was very intriguing.

The exclamation mark after birthday seems excited but his overall impression is subdued. The thing is saying seems to me to be sad, or at least not good news.
Also, the movements between hugging and nodding are at odds with each other.
