An excellent short story, I really enjoyed it. The use of nature to create such an atmosphere of dread was wonderful. Not only the storm and what went with it (clouds, lighting, shadows, rain, thunder, etc.), but also the use of the trees and fence at the end. The descriptions also serve to make the atmosphere palpable, the tension real, and that knot of dread in your stomach tighten and twist in on itself as the story draws to a close.
The only thing I would point to as murky is whether or not Joe's desire to sleep (mentioned in the beginning) was normal or caused by the creature that was after him.
