Very interesting and sadly so true in various parts of Africa; this portion reminds me of short stories I read decades ago from anthologies of American and English Literature for high school classes. This is not a bad thing, the descriptions were as then captivating. At first I thought, there is too much in the descriptions; but as I read on, I remembered two things. I read very little fiction(al) writing and that so much of what I read is for research or factual knowledge. The further I read the more comfortable I became with this excerpt. I also remembered a semi-biography I read years ago, "Out of America." It detailed by first hand reporting the civil slaughter in Rwanda.
The pathos Amber experienced as she invested in the lives of Ugandans and as she faced departure and her departure was evident and felt by the reader. Kudos on such emotive writing.
