I like this a lot. Very well-written. Good story-telling.
I'm more or less stuck in the past too, though not as extreme as Martha, so I can sympathize with her.
Everything changes, and it's either we change or we wither away... I don't know why I said that, and in a way I refuse to believe that, but this story made me want to say that. That's how much I like this story.
I really like the contrast between Denise and Martha. Even though they deal with more or less the same thing, one is actually, to some degree, looking forward, while the other looks backwards. And they get along well too, so it's a nice chemistry.
I think this work is already good as it is, and no revision is necessary.
So maybe not everything needs to change, huh?
Good job!
This is very very good! I really enjoyed reading this. This story is truly one of the few stories I like in this site. It's very dark. And yes, weird. That's why I like it. People don't embrace weirdness, that's one of the reasons why this story is so good.
I really like the way the Stone narrates the story. Very deep and contemplative. It's so interesting how basically human the Stone is, even though it (I'm very tempted to say "she") is a stone. Well, granted, it is a magical stone, but still not human. But then again one can argue till the end of time about the meaning of being human. I think this is one of the most interesting aspects of the story.
But I don't want to bore you with my interpretations...
I just want to add that "He said nothing lasts forever, so how long does death last?" is a mind-blowing sentence. Great story.
looking forward to read more of your works!
