I know quite a few people that became like this - I used to be one as well.
Believing what other people say, instead of ignoring them and thinking positive thoughts about yourself, can be really hard at times. But eventually, something has to give - or you just give up and let life take over you. Instead of living it.
You have written it well, can't see any reason to criticise it
(This 'spellchecker' - tells me I am spelling 'criticise' incorrectly.
It IS the correct way in England)
I don't think there is an 'answer' as such to the title.
Apart from the line that starts 'Could love be worth the pain....' is questionable, depending on the 'pain' part.
You've mentioned many different things, and thought those through well. I like it.
Although I'm not really religious, I can understand that aspect to it.
A touch, a kiss, is sometimes all that's needed to feel love and feel wanted.
Unfortunately, many people never get to understand what it's really like to 'feel' love or be loved in a relationship.
Or they just don't believe anyone can be and cynical.
But when you do, however brief it may be, there isn't a better feeling in the world.
This could easily describe me as a child 'The quiet child observes a lot'
This is really good, very descriptive, I am reminded of my own similar childhood.
Even now, as an adult I often get asked how I can remember events or people from 20+ years ago.
I hope your life is far happier now.
Hmm an unusual and intriguing start that could easily be the opening pages of a book.
Who is the lady with the box? What is the significance of it? Why wasn't she afraid of the two men that had the box, before they handed it back to her, before fleeing? Where did she come from? Is she human?
I do hope you finish it and would love to read the finished story.
Your story has the potential to be a good one.
You could have plenty of banter between the detectives, during each chapter. (Do they get on together? Hate each other?)
With John being a detective and Kathy becoming a potential victim at the end of chapter 1, how will that affect John's objectivity during the case?
What type of person is John? Is he a moody loner that wants things done his way, or a team player?
With the end of the first chapter, what will happen to Kathy?
Will she become a kidnap victim, because an ex-con wants revenge on her father?
Is it because an ex-boyfriend wants to teach her what a tough guy he is?
Keep writing and hopefully you finish the book.
Good luck.
I'm not sure what you are hoping for as a review.
For each younger generation, the older generations always criticise them for something.
In Britain, the 1960's was 'mods' and 'rockers'. The 1970's was 'punk rockers' causing trouble.
But they eventually grow up, get jobs and have kids of their own and the cycle of criticising goes on again.
You mention pregnancy. Britain has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in the whole of Europe.
(Not a great statistic for us to have)
Overall, I agree with what you've said.
Every generation will have problems, always will.
One small thing: Have confidence in yourself. Never say sorry for your work.
There will always be some people that like it, some won't.
Keep writing more like this and you'll have plenty to be happy with :)
Normally, I prefer to give only positive comments to work, but with this, it is very hard to do.
You have a HUGE block of text to read - it needs to be broken into paragraphs, capital letters, punctuation etc.
There's a lot of thoughts you have in here, that you've made hard work to grasp and respond to.
I'm still not sure what it is you're asking for.
You only mention 'love' on the very last line: 'love is real again' - Why is it real again?
Please try again, and re-post it. Maybe you'll get more people respond to it.
This is great.
I like the title and description. The story held my attention. Maybe you could add more chapters to it. Keep people intrigued, to see whether or not he does see her again.
First of all, I do not condone rape of anyone. This is not aimed at anyone that HAS suffered abuse of any kind.
There have been many accusations of a woman / girl accusing someone of rape. Their 'abuser' is ALWAYS named and shamed, before it even gets to court for trial, if at all. If their 'abuser' is later freed and cleared of the 'rape' - then the 'victim' should be ALWAYS be named and shamed for wasting police time. Sadly, this never seems to happen.
A few years ago, it was on the front page of my local paper that a woman of 19 was 'raped' by a man with a white van.
This 'man' was never caught. Apparently there were 60 police officers working the case I believe. After 2 days the 'victim' told police she had made it up. Yet the 'victim' was never named.
Shouldnt' it also be looked at the other way as well? How many 'rapes' are NEVER commited but reported around the world?
How does a male wrongly accused of rape get his life back when 'tainted' by this stigma?
I first met my wife on a chat-site 5 years ago. (Not Facebook or Myspace) We got talking and eventually met.
I think for single guys on a chat-site looking for girls, it depends what you want from it and how serious you are.
If you're looking for a relationship, just look for girls with similar interests to you and be honest. It worked for me.
I agree that sometimes music can bring parents and their kids together. It worked for me.
I was a teenager in the '80's - my mother was a teenager in the '60's. (She likes my favourites, except rock, I like some '60's)
The Eagles, Journey & Nickelback - I love all of those.
I agree with most of what you've said. I don't have any kids so I can't try it this out.
You've obviously thought about this for quite a while and explained it well.
There's a man that lives near me that is disabled, has a wheel-chair, but was still awarded 'community champion' for recycling litter.
He always seems to have a smile on his face regardless.
This is a good poem, with a positive ending. Keep writing.
Hmm... another interesting piece you've written.
I think we all need to have 'shimmering dreams and naive aspirations' to an extent. If we don't have the possibility of excitement, or success in life, what's the point of existing at all?
I do like the image of Jewish people queing up to dig their heels into Hitler's face. I'm not Jewish, but all races deserve a go at him.
I'm not religious as such. I believed in God when I were younger, but with what I've seen happen to people around the world, with wars and famine, why does he allow people to suffer if he has that power to end suffering?
I wonder why he doesn't kill off mankind and start again.
On the other hand, would you really want to know what happens after you die? What if nothing happens? You die, that's it.
I enjoy these thought-provoking pieces you've written. You have talent and imagination.
I think overall, it's very good. There's lots of choice, even competitions, but very little feedback offered.
Also, I would like to see just how many people have viewed my work, even if they don't review it. Other websites do this for free.
I don't drive. I prefer to walk anyway. In a car, you can miss lots of things driving by. Stopping for a while is good.
Yes, I've often idly wondered what other people's lives are like when sat in a car.
I'm lucky that I live near a mountain, so when I take my dog for a walk, I can enjoy nature.
My hometown is Nottingham, but now I live in Wales.
I've been all over England and I do agree that charm, chivalry and manners are in short supply.
If I choose to hold a door open for a lady, I often get a look of: 'I can open it MYSELF thankyou!'
I once saw two ladies, each with a push-chair, struggling up some steps. I offer to help them and I get told to ' **** off!'
I don't agree with your last paragraph though. I'm not posh, or a Royalist. I was brought up to have manners and be polite.
