I find I can write a female POV a lot better than a male one, years of being forced to be male has made it hard for me to think and feel as male, tends to depress me.
But sometimes I write a male character, it's very rare though.
I've found that it helps to take note of any emotional differences, males are usually expected and demanded to be more stoic and emotionally controlled while females can be more emotionally open, also noting any behavioral differences can help. Females are quite capable of being emotionally distant though and in tight control of their emotions.
So it is best to consider individual mind sets with male and female characters - something I've noticed is rarely ever considered in things like video games where males are portrayed as powerful and Godly while females are portrayed as weak and simpering, it's is tiresome when people do those stereotypes all the times without considering any individual personalities.
When writing a female characters, don't do her as a stereotype, same with males, do them as individuals and they'll develop a lot better.

It's said that the mirror doesn't lie, but it does lie if you're not cis-gender for example or not the person that many say you are or believe that you should be. Native Americans used to believe that if you looked into a mirror then your soul would be trapped behind the glass and all that would remain is an empty shell.
I could answer many but never answer with sincerity and warmth to most.
I have stopped to watch the sky many times and wondered many times about the who, the where and the why. I have listened to water go by, I have watched a child run by as fast as they can. I have never walked through a forest in the rain, but I have walked in the rain many times.
I have comforted a broken heart while my own heart has been broken and never comforted.
I have never felt the softness of a dove, but I have felt the softness of a kitten's fur.
I loved once, years ago, but I was betrayed for money.
I have experienced much, most of it pain and sorrow and very little cheer. But I try to hold onto something, onto my hope and longing to finally be able to be myself as best as possible.
