What is Pleiades? Click here! ▼The root form of Pleiades comes from the number seven. It's a seven line poem with few restrictions, but emphases on strong imagery. The title's first letter should define the rest of the poem and can only be one word. The following seven lines should start with the first letter of the poem's title and only be six syllables each.
Hello Kitty,
Initial Impression
First, I just want to say that I love the image you used in helping capture the essence of the imagery within this poem. I think it's a great example of the playful nature of terriers!
Imagery and Feel
I think you did a pretty good job at showing how terriers and dogs in general are. I think the opening is the strongest area of the poem:
The dog is ever close, / teasing me with his ball. - I feel as though every dog owner has experienced this particular moment.
Technicalities
As far as Pleiades form, I think you did an excellent job mechanically; you followed its form with its title, first letter, and syllables. I think you canvassed a lot of areas of what it's like to own a terrier, but I think you told us a lot rather than showing us. This is why I liked the opening especially. It gave me a feel on the imagery rather than just telling me what's going on, as seen later with lines like
terrorizing the cat or
taking me on wild runs. I think the ending was strong, and sweet.
Overall Impression
This is a solid poem that follows both the prompt and form well. Thank you for sharing this and entering the contest. I hope to see you next round!
