I am also a spreadsheet junkie and use the 1. then 1.1 then 1.1.1 then 1.1.1.1 format as I keep inserting rows to refine my outline.
During Octoprep, it helps to have my outline in Excel so I can keep inserting rows in between the larger events which might be numbered 1, 2, 3 at first. I'll add in 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 with events that may bridge the major plot points 1 and 2. On the next revision, more rows are inserted with 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3 between 1.1 and 1.2 to add more details. I'll also add in notes such as what can be dialogue, what they're wearing, and any other details I think of now that I don't want to forget later.
I don’t like saying unkind things, or realize a couple paragraphs in that this story, while the title sounded interesting, isn’t for me.
If you saw some of the reviews I’ve rec’d over at FanFiction, I know I can’t sink to the level of idiotic questioning whether the person has yet to go back to school for their GED, needs an ESL class, or is a dope fiend. I’m being trolled and the unconstructive reviews just pile up attached to each of my chapters. Perhaps it is by your same sixteen year old Mensa member, when she’s finished her good deeds for the day here at Writing.com? Alas, a genius’s work is never done.
I have responded to some with thanks, others that posed questions, and I even correct blatant errors I have made. Although I sometimes think I saw a different TV show or read a different book than the reviewers did, or wonder why someone reading would rather think I’m a crackpot, rather than believing a character may be lying to gain something.
I can only guess they have no siblings and are home-schooled, since none have experienced the accusing finger pointed in their innocent direction with the declaration, “He did it!” Though I can slyly suppose that they are so uninteresting, they have no concept of gossip, or being the subject of it.
