Convention 2005

For the second year in a row I have come to the wonderful finally planned event that the Master and Mistress have put together for writers across the internet. Writers whom are like neighbors but actually have many miles between them. Many of us act as if we have not gone a day without seeing each other like close family. Daily conversations and emails keep us closer than many family members ever seem.

The Master and Mistress with help from their family and friends put on a fantastically organized event that everyone can enjoy whether you are in your late teens, thirties, or hmmm older. The one new thing this year I thoroughly enjoyed was the added genre of being able to come up with poetic interactives. These interactives made you think and thus were very good for the mind.

Three days before the convention I hear you saying. Well yes, three days as Vivian Author Icon, Jacque Graham Author Icon and myself were going two days early so I had to leave for Oklahoma City where I would meet my two adopted Mom’s at the airport, on Monday. Monday night my family and I stayed in a hotel near the City and then my family dropped me off at the airport were I eventually met up with my Moms.

The flights were great and we had no delays, yay! We even ended up getting into Allentown/Bethlehem Airport early but spent what seemed like days trying to get the rental car, ended up to be a van, for days as they could not find Viv’s reservation. We eventually got the van and were on our way.

By the time we got into the hotel room all I could do was crash on the bed. The next thing I remembered was Jacque saying that they were going to get room service and would that is okay with me. Well of course, food was actually not on my priority list at that time. I was just happy to get a break from the three months I had spent without sleep with my three-month-old daughter.

I am not even sure what I did during the day on Wednesday, all I can remember was reading and relaxing for the first time since the last convention fifty-one weeks ago. Is that sad or what? The life of a stay-at-home mom is anything but relaxing.

Wednesday night we three went to a fabulous Italian food restaurant where I got Fettuccini Alfredo. I only wish that I could have brought it back to the hotel room as it would have been a great lunch the next day. Unfortunately at the time we did not have a refrigerator, dang it.

Thursday came around and thus registration where familiar and unfamiliar faces arrived to get the party started. It was great to see the Master’s face first as he was standing in the hall as if he was waiting for us to show. The first thing he said amounted to ‘You are not the first here to register.’ I just wanted to retort ‘Yeah well, we were probably here in the hotel before you, so there,’ (while sticking my tongue out at him, but ‘no’ I held that in).

The Master and Mistress with help from their family and friends put on a fantastically organized event that everyone can enjoy whether you are in your late teens, thirties, or hmmm older. Of course there was the squirrel that had decided that wanted some energy thus he ate a live wire and ended his poor life. Someone forgot to tell him beforehand that a live electrical line would cause instant death due to frying. Thankfully though the hotel did not decide to feed us squirrel meat that night.

The one new thing this year I thoroughly enjoyed was in relation to the interactives was the added genre of being able to come up with poetic entries. Those choosing to start their pieces with poetry made you think and thus were good for the mind.

The Open Mic night was rather fun and mostly funny with a few dramatic readings here and there. I for the first time decided to bless the audience with my own educational/professorial lecture regarding my disability of cerebral palsy. I did this as a memorial to my friend who died this last year in a freak accident while getting on her van's chair lift that was not fully up as it should have been thus causing her to fall back and because she had brittle bone disease there was nothing that could be done she dead on arrival at the hospital. Her name was Lisa Thies.

The auction went off without a hitch and I got two of the Pookie’s, naked Pookie and mini Pookie phil1861 sent ahead with Diane Author Icon. The Director Pookie favorites went to Love is a Mommy (no foolin) Author Icon and archgargoyle from which they think they got the better of the two big Pookie’s. The last mini Pookie went to Legerdemaim Author Icon.

The masquerade ball was most delightful as we got to see many people dressed up with their masks on, painted and whatnot. I was not one of those delighting in the dress-up and mask thing. I was lucky enough to have gotten everything in a suitcase so I could get to the convention in the first place. I think I finished packing an hour and a half before I left my house three days before the convention.

The one thing we did get to see was the Mistress looking ever so gorgeous in her wedding gown. She sad she would wear it every day if she could but thankfully she does not or she would probably be locked up for mental insanity. Just kidding Mistress don’t have me banned from future conventions, I’ll be good *snicker, snicker*! Your Mom, catwoman Author Icon has already said she wanted to learn to tie her shoe with one-hand next year..Boy am I going to be busy next summer. Maybe I should sell my afghans instead of keep them around the house.

Around the last hour of the dance people came and went as they please and many of the conventioneers changed into comfy clothes as dressing up is a pain after awhile. Then after the music ended the Master passed around the glow lights that lifewriter sent to him and archgargoyle for the occasion. By that time I had no energy left so I went back to my hotel room to pack and get ready to go home the next day.

The last day was rather sad but somewhat exciting for me as I would be seeing my husband a children, whom I thoroughly missed, late that night. I hated leaving everyone though as I am not sure that I will come back next year as I have already planned to go home, Southern California, for my birthday on July fourth, thus going on a second vacation in one summer maybe too much on the professors salary we live on.

Then again only time will tell you could again see me there with a smile on my face and a joy in my heart. Ummm, I may need to go back and have some like Jay's debut novel is out now! Author Icon or catwoman Author Icon to teach me how to knit. Dang, I should have asked Jay when she had me teaching her to tie her shoe with one hand.
