This is a poem about the soldiers in a political war. |
Victims of an Unpopular War From living rooms throughout the U.S. Came the shouts “What are we fighting for?” The soldiers gave their lives They marched unknown, even as heroes No one claims to care – because that Supports an unworthy cause But what about the shed blood? Those who died? Do they count: Or do we pencil them in on our roster sheets Under the heading: Unpopular War Casualties People cried Peace at ANY cost They watched the news and discussed the lives of unknown Soldiers as if they were little plastic men. The real soldiers fought for freedom. America interpreted this as politics. The pride of the individual soldier is constantly bruised with accusations The people's politics and Easy chairs Give them the right to hurl But what about the individual soldier? He fought for freedom. And… Gained the right To be Abused? For in an Unpopular War there are no heroes Just Mental and Physical casualties And the right given to every T.V. viewer to turn their head away But Face it America! Be strong. Assume Responsibility. Those were our people. Our brave soldiers. They faced horrors A Human should never experience. Be proud that the strength that gave us our Freedom still exists In the Individual Soldiers of an Unpopular War |
