Come with me as I go over the recent population and condo boom in Atlanta. |
The Condominiums of Atlanta The ninth largest city in the country, Atlanta, is known for its amazing restaurants, friendly locals, low cost of living and southern hospitality. Atlanta also features the worlds largest aquarium, with over 100,000 animals, whose doors recently opened to the public. With it's many positive factors, it's no wonder Atlanta has experienced a population boom over the past several years. In fact, the population has more than doubled in the last 5 years! A sharp rise in population feeds a sharp rise in building production. And the condos have been going up at a more and more steady pace. These new buildings have provided a face lift for the Atlanta skyline as well as a rise in the general quality of life. The first really mentionable move in the modern condo direction was Metropolis. Located at 943 Peachtree Rd, this 20 plus story structure splits at the 7th floor, where there is a large deck, pool, recreation area and grill. Metropolis is also referred to as the "city of glass," for its windows, which are a beautiful reflective blue. This building is a hub of social activity. Prices range from $200K to $350K. Following in Metropolis's footsteps is Spire. Created by the same people who developed Metropolis, Spire carries the same modern feel. Atlanteans were so excited about the new structure that many moved in while construction was still taking place on the higher floors! The structure boasts an impressive 27 floors, a pool, garden, ample parking and street level shopping. Like its sister building, the Metropolis, Spire presents large blue windows on both sides of its long sleek body. Homes here range from $200K to $450K. One of the most exciting developments in town is Atlantic Station. What is now a bustling urban renewal project was once a steel mill. The buildings have been converted to a shopping district, office space, a 16 screen movie theatre and lofts. On the edge of the Atlantic Station shopping area is Twelve. Twelve is the first hotel / residential building in Atlanta. It contains 404 condominiums and 101 hotel rooms. The interesting part is that the hotel rooms are the same design as the condos! Each comes with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen with stainless steel appliances, plasma television, washer and dryer and internet connectivity. Guests have the option of having their refrigerators fully stocked for their arrival. Another popular building in Atlanta; Twelve sold out in 8 weeks. Units sell for upwards of $500K. On the topic of conversions, Atlanta is also known for converting old mills to lofts. One of the more well known conversions is the Cotton Mill lofts. Located in Fulton County, The Cotton Mill Lofts are a collection of 9 historic industrial buildings. There are 500 lofts with 60 unique floor plans. The lofts consist of concrete floors and brick walls. Many units still include machinery and other left-overs from the mills days at work. The entire compound is really something to see. It's listed in the national registry of historic places. You can rent at the Cotton Mill Lofts, but not buy. These are just a few of the many, many, MANY condos and lofts in Atlanta. If you are unfamiliar with the Atlanta area, it's best to find a native to show you around. For more information regarding living spaces in Atlanta, check out http://www.brukrebs.com. |
