Christmas comes and Christmas goes
With trinkets filling stores.
We all go to see the malls
Corralling on every floor;
Like cattle being shuffled through
The market, stock by stock;
We fight our neighbors for the things
That should matter to us not.
Christ’s birth, it seems, is put aside,
So much it’s hardly thought;
Until the end of Christmas night
When we think of what we’ve bought.
The thousands of dollars on the floor
Seems nothing to the kids
As they play with wrapping, boxes, and bows
And forget what was within.
But Christmas just for me, ‘tis true,
Is family, friends, and God!
Gifts are bought with credit cards
For friends not in our hearts.
But the gifts given from Love alone
Remain within our soul.
Those gifts remind us what Christmas is
And, finally, Jesus is welcomed home!
