I want a man who'll hate to see me cry.
He'll always inspire me to try.
Dependence will be but a word of curse.
He'll feel secure enough to hold my purse.
With him I will feel safe.
When I see him my heart will race.
He'll convince me that love
is not conditional.
He'll let me see my fears
are fictional.
I'm just not sure if he's in
this time.
For me to wait til next is
a crime.
But he'd want me to lead
a full and happy life.
Even if I'm not to be his wife.
(P.S. This poem came about after a failed attempt to re-enter the dating scene after the end of a long term relationship. My cynical side views this poem with derisive amusement. But somewhere deep inside me I think there's hope.)
