October

October is autumn
in all her full glory,
shades of red and brown,
of orange and red.
The smell of woodsmoke
on a crisp moonlite night,
the sad songs of crickets
before the first killing frost.
A bright orange moon
hanging low in the sky.
The last gasp of color
before winter takes hold.
