Imagist poem that describes a lot of people's mindsets today.
We sail from place to place,
Learning new things,
Acquiring new objects,
And taking things for our own.
We declare war on
Anything that does not follow
OUR code of conduct
And OUR frame of mind.
We do not realize
The contributions others have made,
And what they can do.
We only see that we must be right.
So we sail in our little boat,
Belittling what we learn from others,
And justifying our taking
Of their things,
Because we are superior
And we see no other view.
We are narrow-sighted
And will not accept help.
When others tell us of a hole
In OUR beautiful ship
We ignore them.
And because of OUR wisdom
And disbelief in us being wrong
And them being right,
OUR ship fills with water
And we drown.
