I Am An Illusion

Annoyed as I wake and reach to slam
obnoxious noisemaker to the floor;
Detesting for a moment that
which ends the dream where I am home.

Saddened as I mask the remains
of last night’s indulgence on my face;
Regretting for a moment that
I drank enough to win first place.

Determined as I squeeze and mold
gravity taxed flesh into spandexed tabs;
Envying for a moment that
twenty-something chick with impossible abs.

Disgusted as I nod and smile
at my boss’s inane repartee;
Angry for a moment that
he doesn’t see how it sickens me.

Somber now as the day nears its end
removing illusion, discarding veneer;
Musing for a moment that
someone, somewhere, wants to know me.
