M&M Brain-Teaser puzzle

Bill, Phil, Jill, and Dill are sharing a bowl of M&Ms at a party. There are only 4 colors in the bowl: red, yellow, blue, and green. After the party, a local scientist discovered a rare blood disease that can result from consuming the wrong combination of different types of food coloring. In order to discover if anyone could have caught this rare disease, the scientist will need to determine how many of each color M&M each person had eaten. Unfortunately, the 4 people were also drinking at the party, so they cannot remember exactly which M&Ms they had. Luckily, they do remember bits and pieces of that night, and were able to provide the following clues.

For each person, list how many red, yellow, blue, and green M&Ms that they ate at the party. (They all ate at least 1 M&M)


Bill had 5 each of yellow and blue M&Ms
Bill and Dill had the same amount of red M&Ms
Jill and Phil had the same amount of red M&Ms
Dill and Jill had the same amount of yellow M&Ms
No one has more yellow M&Ms than Phil
Bill had more total M&Ms than anyone else
If you add Phil’s red and blue M&Ms together, they will equal the amount of his yellow
Jill had one more red M&M than she had yellow
Dill is the only person who had any green ones
Dill had an equal amount of each color of M&M
Jill had no blue M&Ms
