Heroine saves world and finds love. |
[ This story is very much a work in progress as you will see. Thanks for any feedback and ratings.] This story is not about love for none exists for her. Her destiny is not to be loved for she is the queen, the ruler that will release humanity from its pain. Her rule shall end decades of bloodshed that was caused by her rulers, her predecessors. She shall have all of the powers that her predecessors possessed and possibly more than ever imagined. Her abilities and regeneration will be unknown to everyone and no one, even her, will know the possibilities of her powers. Her rule will last for 1000 years when humanity needs her no more. The professor droned on and on about the first exam of the semester. Some students listened intently while most slept, played games on their laptops or read the newspaper. Suddenly a loud siren went off and she yelled “Shit!” She grabbed all of her stuff and then ran to the steps that lead to the exit of the lecture hall. As she was running up the stairs she told everyone to get immediately to the safe houses in the building. She ran out into the hallway when she started to change. Her clothes changed to black fitted pants that were tucked into biker boots that had silver buckles and square heels. Her shirt changed to a black corset over a black long sleeve shirt. Her backpack morphed into a long coat with two swords crossing the back. She marched out of the building where a group of similarly dressed people were waiting. The campus was deserted except for the group. They headed to the small field in the middle of campus and waited. From their positions, she was obviously the captain. Other troops started to file in behind them but they were dressed in normal army fatigues. These troops were obviously the pawns and the group in black was the real players. Suddenly, she fired her gun hidden beneath her coat. The bullet hit something and instantly froze it and made it appear because it had been invisible to all except the black group. This group was known as the Knights, a group founded back in the Middle Ages for the protection of all mankind from anything including itself. Most people knew only this about the group and accepted it because they had ended many things such as both World Wars and the Cold War. For awhile now it had been know that an alien warship had been heading to Earth in order to harvest all natural resources. This is what the Knights had been trained for and they had all the necessary weapons to kill them. [Fight, fight, fight. Alien team defeated and fifteen soldiers die] Troops head back to release the students from safe houses and the Knights go around the dead bodies of the aliens to see if any survived. The captain, known as [Isabella/ Isabel/ Isi], goes over to the body of the dead soldier and bends down. She places her hand on his forehead and on his chest over the wound to his heart. Quickly she gets up and then walks off to where the Knights have made all of the civilians gather to here the news. As she walks off, the dead soldier opens his eyes and looks at her only to realize that she is one of his friends in the dorms. She turns her head slightly and he sees a single tear roll down her cheek and then completely disappear. She turns back and stands on a platform that has been raised for this speech. “They are here. Whatever you do, don’t let them catch you dead or alive for they will then be able to study us more than they have ever been able to. They will return in two weeks and the world will know, but we will not loose this war. I promise!” She leaves as does everyone else. The soldier looses her in the crowd and returns to his room to clean up and think about everything. Later that evening, she is doing rounds in the dorms to make sure no one has been hurt anymore and that there is nothing hiding anywhere. As she circles in her dorm, the soldier (named Brandon) pops out of his room and asks her if he can ask her a question. She goes in and he closes the door. Brandon then asks her why she saved him and no one else. She does not answer and is about to head out when he calls to her, “Amanda, why did you save me?” Amanda is her student name, not her real name which is known only to the Knights. Slowly she changes back to her student form and then goes back to her real form. “My name isn’t Amanda. It’s Isabella, Isi for short. By now you know that I am a Knight and I am the captain of the group that is here. I am sorry.” “For what? You saved my life when you aren’t supposed to; you aren’t, right? I mean I am thankful, but I don’t understand? The Knights are supposed to be loners, keeping only with their own kind and you guys are supposed to be mean, without hearts. At least that is the rumors and you are also supposed to have super skills, like all of you can shoot a fly from three miles away on a windy day. And then you can run faster than a cheetah and hear the buzz of a bee on the other side of a massive city.” Isi smiles at the rumors, “Yes we are good shots but we only have one other skill that we were born with. The most common is running speed. And yes most only hang out with the others because it is easier in the long run not to have friends in case something happens. They create complications that cannot exist if we need to do our job. You need to leave. No one can know that I brought you back. And they will be looking for me now so it isn’t safe to stay around me. Leave by tomorrow night, the sooner the better. I have to go now.” “I don’t understand; why are they looking for you? They don’t know about me do they?” “No, it’s the prophecy. When mankind is at its greatest need, a leader will rise from the Knights. The leader will have the strengths of the people and more. The leader will have the speed, the sight, the hearing but will also be able to read minds, be able to freeze time, tell the future and possibly other gifts unknown and beyond all known powerful predecessors. [The leader will rule for 1000 years until humanity’s need is no more.] The time has come for the leader as the war with the aliens begins. I am the one that they have been looking for. Leave now and don’t look back. Don’t regret anything because we will win against the invasion but the real war going on is with the council that governs the Knights. With the coming of the leader, the government will fall and they will lose their power. That is why they want me and to steal my powers. A few years ago, they discovered where the powers were stored in the body and they were able to steal the powers and add to their own. You see they test kids that come into the institute for powers but first they tell a story to all of them. It is about a prince or princess that has all of the powers listed in the prophecy. When I heard it, I could also hear the storyteller’s mind. It was horrible, hearing the thoughts. Almost like, you just wait kids; we’ll kill you if you show that you fulfill the prophecy. That is why I failed most of the tests and then I heard that they were going to kick me out and hurt my parents because they had lied to them. So as the most common test was at the end; I passed that one and they took me into the school for training the Knights. From the beginning I had a talent and I was always at the head of my class. From the school I graduated top of my class and was already in line to be trained as an officer instead of a soldier, a pawn as they were called. I finally got captain and my soldiers and I were assigned to CU, here. There are groups everywhere at most colleges to protect 'Our Future'. But the council doesn’t care about the future. What most people, not even the Knights know is that all the major wars in history may have been ended by the Knights but they were also started by the Knights specifically, the council members started the wars. Some were for fun and others were started over small fights within the council. That is how they settle disputes. The council is why humanity is so weak and failing. They start all the fights and the racism and religious prejudice was started years and years ago by the council and the people believed it so they continued with the beliefs. Just leave. You know too much and I don’t know what is going to happen. I am supposed to save humanity but I don’t know if I can even save or have the support from my Knights. They don’t approve of my socializing with normal people. But normal people keep me sane in the life that I live. We will start to see when we get the orders. You need to leave now. Go to your girlfriend and live the life that you have been dreaming of since you met her. I can see it.” A tear rolls down her cheek as she looks off into the distance, seeing Brandon living with his pregnant wife that has brown hair in a two story house with children running around and playing in the yard. The trees are in full bloom and the wind is gently blowing as the couple look at their kids smiling. “You should go, enjoy something that I can never have or understand. You have been given a second chance, don’t waste it. I lo… goodbye Brandon.” She says as she starts to open the door to leave. Slamming the door, “Wait, you can’t just go like that. It is true you can only save the people we love, but then that means that… that you love me. But I can’t…” “Good bye Brandon” she says as she leaves the room and Brandon forever. She returns to her dorm room to find that her roommate had left as many other students had. She started to grab the bags from her closet and throwing stuff into them. Within an hour everything in the room was packed and she set everything into the middle of the floor and grabbed the one bag that had some clothes and some food and money in it. Everything else was left for the Council to find and do what they wished with it. They could try to find her, but she left no clues for them. She shut the door to the room and walked away with a great sadness in her heart for she was loosing the life that had keep her as normal as she had been in a great while. But she knew that with the friends that she had found there, there would be a time that she would have to leave them and the memories behind. She headed out to the parking lot where her convertible was parked and threw her bag into the car. Sunglasses on, she sped away towards the unknown. Ch. 2 She reached the spot that she had seen the night before in her hotel room. This is where she had seen she would find out the loyalty of her crew and where the dominos foretold would start to fall. Her visions could only see the possible future and she could never see everything including if her crew would follow her or the council. She waited for the group to show up and as she waited, she watched the sun set beneath the horizon creating a red glow that made fighting for humanity seem right. She glanced to her left to see dust rising in the distance and two black SUV’s speeding across the desert towards her. They suddenly stopped in front of her and her crew, her Knights, jumped out of the car, weapons in tow, and two council members. They approach her, waiting for her to fight back, but are surprised to see that only her swords are across her back and that she is not dressed in normal Knight gear, just jeans, a white shirt, a black leather jacket and her boots that she is known for. She approaches without care and caution. “We have been looking for you for a while. You were supposed to be at the debriefing after the attack and you weren’t there. You are no longer captain and you need to come with us. We need to do some tests on what went wrong.” “You know that nothing went wrong. There is nothing wrong with me and you know it, so stop pretending that this is routine. You are not going to get my powers and you won’t take them until the aliens are defeated anyways. Too much of a risk.” She said smiling as her former family and council stared at her. They had always seen her as reserved except for her insistence to make friends with normal people, but they let her for she was the best fighter and leader that the Knights had seen in a long time. She had heart for what she was doing and that is why her Knights had been the most successful and well behaved of the entire army that was stationed around the world. But confusion started to clear the minds of her Knights. What was she talking about her powers? No captain had more than one, that was reserved for council members only and her power was one of the most common of all the Knights. Yes she could run much faster than the ones who had the running power, but that was accepted as she acceled in almost everything she did. They had been under the command of two of the council members since she had disappeared the day after the attacks. They were supposed to be looking for the one who fulfilled the prophecy. It was odd coinencidence that one of her friends in the dorm also turned out to be a soldier that many had seen die in the attack, but when they went to find his body, it was gone and when they checked his room, his stuff was gone too. It was almost like he didn’t exist. They said nothing to anyone and never talked about the incident again, but couldn’t help but wonder if their captain had something to do with him and his stuff disappearing. Did she take his body home to his family or did she do something else with it. They all felt loyalty towards their captain, but recent events had put that loyalty to question. Why had she abandoned them after their victory? And why had she been hiding for a while, only to show up exactly when she was wanted? She always had an excellent sense of when she was needed, either by the people or her Knights. “Just come with us and you will be free in no time. You can even have your Knights back. They seem to show a nauseating amount of loyalty towards you. None of us can figure that out.” “Well loyalty doesn’t always have scientific reasoning and the next attack is today right here.” She says as she glances towards the horizon. She pulls a gun from beneath her jacket, aims and shoots. A thud is heard and a huge mass appears in the distance. A look of shock ripples throughout the group because no one can see well even though they have the power. They all need contacts to see the invisible aliens and she had been able to shoot them without the contacts. The aliens swarmed out of the crashed ship for all of their invisible powers had gone down with the ship. The Knights readied themselves for a fight. [Fight, Fight, Fight. Victory, no one dies except council members who started to get in one of the SUV’s when the aliens blew up the escaping car.] The dead aliens were piled into the back of the last SUV and the Knights split into two groups, one in the SUV and the other in the convertible of their captain. On the way back, there was silence in the convertible until one of the more courageous Knight asked, “Why did you leave us? Did you have something to do with moving Brandon’s body because we couldn’t find him and all of his stuff was gone when we went to get it and send it back to his family. We tried to call his family but he answered. We didn’t mention it to anyone but we all saw him die; we all saw him go down in the field. And there is something else. One of us heard the council members discussing the fact that you were the One.” Much much LATER: We waited in the room, sitting in the circle as the aliens held us at gunpoint. They hand her an old hand held gun with enough bullets for the people in the center. They want them to shot themselves or someone else in the circle. The council has long since fallen apart with some being killed in the battle and others fleeing. The women and children were in another chamber that was sealed tight and was slowly filling up with water as the men and one warrior woman sat and watched. The warrior woman was there with the men because she had originally been mistaken as a man in the fighter outfits but was soon noticed to be the one who had done the most damage to the aliens, killing the most. She looked at the gun thinking of the loyalty of her men since the first attack all the way till now. She could not shoot them nor could she give up and shoot herself. Suddenly a smile came over her face and her men looked at her curiously. Slowly she started to raise the gun and point it to her head. The men gazed in fear as she looked into the mirror across from her and quickly shot all of the aliens in the room. |
