Brick walls
Grey lockers
Masses of bodies
It is the sight I see daily
I fight through the swarm
Of all ignorance
My books close to my side
Holding as tightly to them as I
Do my life
I long to be one of them
Ignorant for a moment
Or longer
They move carelessly and without purpose
Some don’t move at all
Slow to the rest of existence
Not I though
I move with calculated steps
Fast in rate, slow in desire
I do not joke I merrily
Walk like a prisoner towards death
I’m not accepted here
My knees are weak, almost home free
Almost
Just move
Left foot, then right
Clutching my books
I’m just trying to survive
That’s all I’ve ever wanted
I take my calculated steps
Without breaking pace
Just one word
And pain for life.
