The title has nothing to do with the poem.
Seagulls swirl about
and echo their lonely calls across the beach
riding on the weakened, cool thermals
from the drizzly grey morning
The fish swim,
stirred from their slumber by the soft
pit-pat of raindrops on their heads
On their heads? No, on their home.
The watery prison that confines them
The seagulls cry,
and the trapped fish swim,
each confined by their fate
For should they ever desire to intrude into
the other's realm,
then death shall them await
The rain drizzles softly
Muffling the seagull's cries
As if in protest of their weary call
Begging they give it a rest
Too many weep of loneliness
Time and again it strains at the heart
As more and more voices raise the cry
This is where the end starts

Cry not for me, dear lover
Cry not, koibito dear
For despite the misery flooding off from me
I'll always smile through tears
For there are many worse fates, lover
But I shall not write them here
For I wish not to relive them
They're not for you to hear
Don't get me wrong, koibito
I love you with all my heart
But drag you down into this pit with me,
and that's where the end shall start.

The seagulls cry and wing their way
across the storm-filled skies
I watch them now and bow my head
My heart goes with them, dear
I feel their pain as if it was my own
But I'll smile and let it fade away
as I have countless times in the past
For despite these memories, my dear
You're the only thought that lasts.

Cry not for me, dear lover
Cry not, koibito dear
For despite the misery flooding off from me
I'll always smile through tears
For I have you now, my lover
And I'll never let you go
Despite my tears, I love you
More than you'll ever know.

So take my hand, dear lover
And lead me now astray
The gulls can wait; the rain can, too
We'll play another day
