I have walked through the valley in the shadow of fear Striving to reach the other side, where I will be safe and loved. I can see the Lady of Light standing there, waiting for me But I cannot find it within me to stand any longer I have walked through the valley in the shadow of hate Crying out in pain and longing, unable to protect myself. I can see people gathering around me, throwing stones and hateful words, But I cannot defend my heart; I bow my head to these monsters. I have walked through the valley in the shadow of death Lying so still, unable to rise, to go on. I can see people standing by, watching me rot and fade away But the tears start slipping down my face, something stirring inside me. I have walked through the valley in the shadow of oppression Placing one foot firmly in front of the other, pushing past those in my way. I can again see where I need to be, Her arms open wide in welcome But the shadows lurk around me, waiting to steal my soul. I no longer walk though the valley of shadows Living in my heart shines a light, a beacon to show me the way. I can see clearly what I must do and where I must go But I no longer walk alone; My Lady of Light walks beside me, now and forever. |
